Software Developer, Advertising Team (Seattle, WA)

IMDb.com (the Internet Movie Database), the world's most popular movie website, is expanding our advertising team. If you're an experienced software developer whose passion is building robust, scalable and maintainable systems, this is your chance to build the systems that drive the majority of our revenue stream.

As a member of the advertising team, you'll be responsible for developing everything from back-end systems that help our sales team land contracts, to improving our ad-serving and tracking infrastructure to developing new types of ad placements for the website.

We have a great work environment and a strongly cohesive group of talented people. Our developers enjoy a lot of creative control over projects and work on challenging and interesting problems. A love of movies is suggested, but not required; be prepared to be surrounded by debates about the best Hitchcock film ever made and discussions about what might happen when Battlestar Galactica returns. We are a telecommute-friendly workplace. As a separately operated subsidiary of Amazon.com, we offer the benefits and stability of a Fortune 500 company, combined with engaging, close-knit, results-focused environment of a small company. It's the best of both worlds.

    Qualifications:

  • We require a minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science and three plus years of industry programming experience.
  • Many of our systems are built with Linux/Apache/MySql/Perl, so solid skills in these areas are preferred. If specific experience in this environment is lacking, you will be required to demonstrate the ability to adapt and come up to speed quickly.
  • Experience with internet advertising systems is also a plus.
  • Our staff is distributed across the planet so we need employees who can function independently while also interacting efficiently with other team members.
  • This position is in Seattle and cannot be filled remotely.

Please send your resume to careers at imdb.com. Please use the words "Software Developer, Advertising" in the subject line of your email, or it will be rejected automatically by our spam filter. We look forward to hearing from you.

Software Developer, Consumer Site (Seattle, WA)

You build cool features used by millions of IMDb visitors every day, keeping them stuck to the site like glue.

You can't wait to expose IMDb's deep data set in new and interesting avenues, such as through social networking apps or on mobile devices.

You thrive in a smallish team of superstar developers whose charter is one of the biggest websites on the planet: the main IMDb.com website.

You write code that scales to millions of operations a day across a large fleet of servers. You heart UNIX. You regularly hang out with your buddies Perl, SQL, Mason, and Ajax. You distrust code that doesn't "use strict" or have a unit test.

You move fluidly between functional and object-oriented programming models, whichever works best for the problem at hand. You automate as much as possible. You are fundamentally a problem solver, and boy does IMDb have problems to solve: large data sets, increasing scale, increasing expectations for site visitors who want their data to be fresh, relevant, accurate, and easily updated in realtime. These and a strong cup of coffee get you up on Monday morning.

Best of all, you work with a fantastic team of talented and experienced engineers, who are experts in everything from security to metaprogramming to distributed computing. Your work is rigorously reviewed by your colleagues, who expose you to new patterns and approaches in problem solving. But they do this in a nice way that means that you all go to lunch together and keep talking about these things.

You seek to leverage the resources and scale of Amazon, but on a smaller, more nimble team working in a different business model than e-commerce.

You are an experienced software developer and you are the newest member of IMDb's Consumer Site team!

How you apply for this position:

    Email: careers (at) imdb.com
    Subject: Software Developer, Consumer Site

(Applicants only please. This means no recruiters submitting on behalf of other people.)

    Rich Media Designer/Developer (Seattle, WA)

Are you interested in helping us break through to the next level of user interface and online advertising leadership?

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb.com), is seeking a full time Rich Media Ad Campaign Designer to build innovative rich media applications that brand movies and other major products and services. IMDb.com is an Amazon.com company.

The ideal candidate will combine artistic imagination with functional, accessible, user-friendly web solutions. Must possess an excellent working knowledge of Flash and Photoshop and be fluent in Actionscript, HMTL, CSS and Javascript. You should be extremely organized and team-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.

The designer's primary focus will be to design rich media applications for ad campaigns. Secondary responsibilities will include working on user-interface design projects for certain sections of the IMDb site. Prior experience in an agency or media environment is desired but not necessary. You should be equally comfortable in creating the concept for a new design as you are in implementing the design in Flash. Please provide samples of online work you've created.

This position will be expected to stay one step ahead of the latest developments in Internet advertising technologies.

An abiding love of movies is optional, but suggested.

Applicants only: recruiters must not submit on behalf of other people through this link. Applications not submitted by candidates themselves are rejected.

Use the words Rich Media Designer/Developer in the subject line of your email, or it will be rejected automatically by our spam filter. Send to careers at imdb.com.
