Popeye to Be All He Can Be!, 8 December 2002
Author: (robocoptng986127@aol.com) from U.S.A

[CONTAINS SPOILERS]

Popeye, Olive Oyl and Bluto go for a walk when they pass an army poster. Olive just digs a man in uniform and would just love Popeye and Bluto if they were in uniform. They both went inside the draft office but the colonel only had room for one new recruit so Popeye and Bluto showed them scenes from their pictures, like the time Bluto hammered horse shoes on a horse. Popeye showed himself placing the horse shoes on the ground and placing the horse ontop of them. The colonel was tied between this situation. Bluto then showed a scene of him chasing Olive Oyl at the amusement park and left Popeye stuck on the rail tracks but Popeye showed them the conclusion of that cartoon: he ate his spinach, rescued Olive and punched Bluto right onto the test-your-strength bell and won several cigars. The colonel decided to choose Popeye, but Bluto began beating him up so Popeye whipped out his spinach and showed Bluto the error of his ways.

Another classic black and white Popeye feature. Only Popeye is in uniform. He's wearing a navy sailor suit. I guess army men turn women on more than navy men. I can't remember what cartoons those scenes Bluto and Popeye showed the colonel are from, but I'm pretty sure the amusement park one was from King of the Mardi Gras. Unfortunately, these classic Popeyes have been colorized when showed on TV. Colorization is no good! That destroys the classic nature of the program. Would they colorize Gone With the Wind or Miracle on 34th Street? I think they did. They should remain black and white if they were made that way! Anyway, Popeye fans, check out I'm in the Army Now! I recommend it!
