The Face of Death
December 22, 2008
In this week’s issue, Peter Schjeldahl writes about the artist Marlene Dumas, whose work is featured in the MOMA retrospective “Measuring Your Own Grave.” Dumas’s “art rarely conveys feeling so much as excites it and then absorbs it, to the benefit of the work’s authority,” Schjeldahl writes. “She doesn’t give; she takes.” Here is a selection paintings and drawings from the show.
