Pro-Lifers Rally Against Obama Health Plan

Prominent Christian pro-life advocates will participate in a nationwide Webcast to oppose President Obama's healthcare legislation, which they fear would allow government-funded abortion if it became law.

Focus on the Family founder James Dobson; Family Research Council President Tony Perkins; Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J.; and Joe Pitts, R-Pa., are among the Christian leaders who will appear on Stop the Abortion Mandate, which begins at 9 p.m. EST.

 

Christians Surround Gay Pride Event With Prayer, Evangelism

In what is being called the largest outreach of its kind in Charlotte, N.C., more than 1,000 Christians are expected to pray and evangelize at the city's annual gay pride event Saturday to proclaim that "God has a better way."

"Our statement is that God has a better way," said organizer Michael L. Brown, a former Brownsville Revival leader and president of the FIRE School of Ministry, which relocated to the Charlotte area in 2004.

"We won't be yelling at people through loudspeakers," added Brown, who leads the citywide Coalition of Conscience that is behind Saturday's outreach. "We'll be praying, worshiping, believing that the presence of God will touch hearts and will make a difference in the city."

 

Christian-Backed Youth Centers Vandalized in Israel

Christian-funded youth centers in Acre, a city in northern Israel, were vandalized last week after residents expressed concern that their programs were evangelistic, the Jerusalem Post reported.

In a letter to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ), which funds the centers, Acre Mayor Shimon Lankri said some residents were "suspicious" the of group's intentions "and distrust the organization," the Post reported.

 

ORU Reaches Out to Hispanic Pentecostals

Oral Roberts University (ORU) today formed a strategic partnership with the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) that both groups hope will make ORU the school of choice for Hispanic Pentecostal students.

During a press conference today, ORU President Mark Rutland and NHCLC President Samuel Rodriguez ceremonially signed copies of the agreement that both men described as "historic."

 

Creflo Dollar Makes Surprise Donations

An Atlanta-area pastor known for his teaching on financial prosperity has been giving money away to deserving nonprofit organizations in hopes of sparking a "change" that starts with individuals and eventually touches the globe.

Since February, Creflo Dollar has taken his Change Experience tour to five cities, giving away $10,000 in each location to a ministry making a difference in its community. During a tour event Friday in Denver, the pastor of 30,000-member World Changers Church International gave an unexpected $10,000 donation to The Gathering Place, the city's only daytime drop-in center for poor and homeless women and children.
