Will the Church Remain Relevant?

QUOTE: "In order for the church to be relevant in 2010 it must find its identity in Jesus and become scripturally literate. As it returns to its original mission the focus will not be on self but on others. Not on wealth but on worship and the worth of the soul. The early church was known as being composed of those who turned the world upside down. In other words, they challenged the status quo. They effected change by focusing on the person of Jesus. Their goal was not self advancement but the advancement of the Kingdom of God." —Bill Shuler, pastor of Capital Life Church in Arlington, Virginia, and contributor to the Fox Forum, commenting on the need for the church to take the focus off self and instead, reach out to others. +2 #3 tomwinfield 2010-01-13 05:36 Note to Jean—good post, Jean. good thinking. good truth. i am with you. I was saved when God showed me the reality of Jesus. It was that awakening that drove me to pledge my allegiance to God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, and to their plans and purposes on the earth. The Reality of God is what I want to see preached, by preachers bold enough to invite the Spirit of God to come and demonstrae Himself in the service, as in right now, in order to validate what they are saying to us. Once you see that for the Believer our God is with us and in us, for a fact, that becomes a power, a force that works on us continually; knowing that it is God that worketh in you, both to will and to do of His good pleasure. That reality will change your life and save you from Hell. Quote

0 #2 tomwinfield 2010-01-13 04:55 No more focus on self? Sounds right, but it isn't. One of the biggest roles of the Spirit is to transform a person from worldlinesss to focusing on God and His ways. That requires our cooperation, and we need teaching that will help. If you speak of eliminating the get-saved-and-get-rich gospel, called the Prosperity Doctrine, teaching you can write your own ticket with God, you can have from God whatever you can believe Him for, and the teaching that we can reorder the lives of others through our prayers, then yes—let us throw out bathwater, bathtub, baby and all. But be careful. The pendulum often swings back too far when we make corrections. The biggest change we must make is the return of our focus to Jesus, to his shed blood, to why it was necessary, to what it does in the daily life of the Believer. The further the Church drifts from Jesus Christ into political and social correctness, the more irrelevant it becomes. Behold the great falling away that has already taken place… Quote

0 #1 Jean 2010-01-12 15:31 The Lord saved me just before the church started allowing anyone to be a preacher/minister. Back when there was a standard. It was the church leaders that took Jesus out so the church could "grow". There was growth in numbers but death of the standards. There was growth in the area of "praise" but more death to the standard. Those that kept the standard were called, 'old fashion' Now, there are false preachers, pastors, evangel ists, prophets,a postles everywhere! To the point almost of no return. So it is a little strange for me to see folks wanting to put Jesus back in the church when you drove him out to start with. Now folks go to church in shorts and drink their coffee in the sanctuary during the service. Church buildings have been built with the money given by the luke warm and unsaved. The only way to get Jesus back in the church is to go back to preaching Holiness. Go back to preaching against sin. For, holiness without, no man shall see the Lord. Quote
