- TheDudeDiggs, on 07/23/2010, -7/+32I'd take a Galaxy over an iPhone 4 any day
- mfpratte, on 07/23/2010, -1/+19Screw the phones. I want to hear about those crazy stripper parties.
- badqat, on 07/24/2010, -6/+17I returned my iPhone 4. I'm now rocking a Galaxy S phone - the Captivate - but Samsung didn't give it to me.
And honestly - the Captivate is a far superior experience, IMO, and worth every penny. - spacem00se, on 07/23/2010, -3/+8You will want to talk with Michael Steele at the RNC about that.
- blacklilyninja, on 07/24/2010, -1/+5all you cell phone users are being swindled.
- Cyborg31, on 07/24/2010, -0/+4What do you call the PC vs Mac ads then? Ingenious marketing?
- buddhistMonkey, on 07/24/2010, -2/+6((( "I guess it shouldn't be any surprise iPhone sales lately haven't seen strong growth even though the smartphone market's still maturing." )))
You don't know what you're talking about. Here's a quote from MarketWatch on Apple's record-breaking quarter, announced earlier this week: "The iPhone was the main driver of earnings for the period, with unit sales jumping more than 60% to 8.4 million. Apple also sold 3.27 million units of the iPad, which first went on sale in early April."
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/iphone-ipad-sales ... - JudgeMonkey, on 07/24/2010, -0/+4Stupid phrases like "can do pretty much anything you want" don't help you sound very credible. Also, it might help if you shed some light on your experience with android, so people know you aren't making an uninformed statement about the apps. They range, just like the iphone, from the crappiest stuff ever made, to pure awesome. The difference being no one but the developer has a say in how stuff is made on android.
Also, it would be nice if mabakerbraker would elaborate on the quotes. A lot of people are saying a lot of things in a very vague manner.
I am putting down neither. I own an ipod touch, ipad, and have owned two previous ipod models. I also own an android phone and would not easily trade it for an iphone. - Subduction, on 07/24/2010, -0/+4You do not understand correctly.
- lanedek, on 07/23/2010, -10/+13"iPhone 4 Whiners"
Butthurt Apple fanboy is butthurt. - DemDude, on 07/24/2010, -3/+6Nice promo-idea, but wouldn't it have made more sense for them to give away phones that have less antenna problems than the iPhone 4, rather than one you can make lose signal with just one finger?
Seriously, the Galaxy S has the exact same problem as the worst iPhone 4s!
Check out some of these Youtube videos if you don't believe me.

I'm hoping I won't get buried for saying something unfavourable about an Android phone, but I think people really need to see this in order to put things in perspective. And this is coming from an iPhone 4 owner who'll send it in to Apple Care as soon as they've got the refresh ready by the end of September. - nichiplechle, on 07/24/2010, -1/+3How about in gaming?
- stealthspc, on 07/25/2010, -0/+2How can you hate Apple commercials but be okay with these this?
Isn't that slightly hypocritical? - species, on 07/24/2010, -2/+4I've had three iphones and I thought I'd give something else a shot and picked up a captivate. I find it to be a piece of ***** with a slow and unresponsive ui. It drops more calls than my iPhone 3gs did and just overall is a piece of ***** phone. I'm going to return it next week and get an iPhone 4.
- waspbr, on 07/24/2010, -1/+3yep, great phone though there were some issues at first, after a firmware update the issues (GPS related) were all gone. I am very pleased with the phone so far.
- bobbknight, on 07/24/2010, -0/+2Hey at lest the RNC has fun once in a while, give the brutha some props man.
- buddhistMonkey, 11 hr 3 min ago, -0/+1((( "Funny." )))
Funny, indeed. Apparently, Strategy Analytics is using an old definition for "smartphone," one which includes non-touchscreen, keypad-only phones with "apps" from the turn of the century. Nokia made most of its gains last quarter by pumping out cheap-o candy bars at bargain basement prices to Latin America and Greater China. Their revenue is way down, and Nokia shareholders are so disgusted with the company's direction that they're actively looking to replace their CEO. - gerryk, on 07/24/2010, -4/+5Well done Engadget for not having a clue what the 'death grip' issue is actually about.
- Jack416, on 07/24/2010, -8/+9Damn. 2010 is truly turning out to be Android's year. Evo 4G and now the Galaxy S line? 4 different Galaxy S phones, each going to all 4 major US carriers.
I guess it shouldn't be any surprise iPhone sales lately haven't seen strong growth even though the smartphone market's still maturing. - Gremlina, on 07/24/2010, -0/+1i wanna read the "pole dancer is told to stop the wild parties" article...
- blindbirds, 15 hr 41 min ago, -0/+1yeah me too.
- mabakerbraker, on 07/24/2010, -3/+4Don’t bother. The Google drones are full at work here. Just don’t tell them the truth about their not so “open" phones and everything will be good.
- mniranjan, on 07/24/2010, -3/+3I haven't liked Samsung products, but it all changed the moment I laid my hands on the Galaxy S
- MWeather, on 07/24/2010, -2/+2You're getting an iPhone 4 because your current phone has reception problems?
That's like getting a Yugo because your Gremlin is unreliable. - species, 16 hr 55 min ago, -1/+1No I'm getting an iPhone 4 because android sucks balls compared to iPhone.
- mabakerbraker, on 07/24/2010, -5/+5Not really good news for Samsung either as most Android fanboiis seem to be only on digg vs. real life:
"77% of iPhone owners say they’ll buy another iPhone, compared to 20% of Android customers who say they’ll buy another Android phone.”
http://money.cnn.com/2010/07/23/technology/iphone_ ... - thisthatwhat, on 07/24/2010, -1/+1I'd just take a Galaxy just because they're offering. ;)
- nvrau, on 07/24/2010, -3/+3I hope it's better than the Samsung Omnia Icon. I love Samsung products but that phone is ATROCIOUS!
- Topher06, on 07/25/2010, -1/+1iPhone whiners?
Geeze, people really tick me off.
Apple is supposed to be all about the quality of their products. They go on about how great their new product is, about how it is so much better then the other crap out there, and in spite of the price, you are buying something that just works and is something you don't even think you need until you own it.
But then, Apple comes out with some duds every now and then and Apple fanboys start claiming that people are whining and crying about how their new iPhone isn't working properly.
If this was Motorola, Nokia, Blackberry, i.e. any other cellphone company then I would say, meh, whatever. These companies come out with a hundred new models every year, you are bound to get a dud or two from time to time.
But Apple makes one god-damned cellphone and its perhaps the only reason why the company exists today. It was leaked months before meaning Apple had test units ready well before the launch. If they couldn't figure out that holding the phone a certain way would drop calls the Apple better get the ***** out of the phone business.
Don't defend Apple on this one. They are arrogant pricks that go one about how great they are until something goes wrong, and then they can't even firmly admit they ***** up. - Jack416, on 07/25/2010, -1/+1Funny.
"Nokia's lead in smartphones grew, claiming a 40.3 percent share of the market after selling 24 million smartphones in the second quarter. RIM remains in second place with an 18.8 percent share, which is down from the previous quarter's 19.1 percent share. Apple is in third place with a 14.1 percent share that is down significantly from the 15.9 percent figure it claimed in the prior quarter. All other manufacturers combined, including Motorola, Samsung, LG, HTC, and Sony Ericsson, accounted for a combined 26.7 percent smartphone market share."
http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=10108 - mabakerbraker, on 07/24/2010, -3/+2Sorry for your self exploding Droid, fanboii. :(
- thisthatwhat, on 07/24/2010, -3/+1It's not so much about being an Android fanboiis but much more about hating Apple in general.
- golder, on 07/24/2010, -3/+0The winners also have to bloody order a full sized sim card as well.
- gcnaddict, on 07/24/2010, -8/+5They're not lucky. They're influential enough to have these passed their way for free.
This is pretty close to bribery. - BloggerSavvy, on 07/24/2010, -8/+1If I understand correctly Android has just been canceled (end of life)... (This news is in other Digg posts).
- shroomtime, on 07/24/2010, -15/+6Lucky? They might feel lucky until they realize a phone with full bars and ***** apps is worse than an iPhone with no bars but can do pretty much anything you want.
- stealthspc, on 07/24/2010, -13/+4Pretty sleazy marketing if you ask me.
They are essentially giving free phones to people who talk down their competitor.
