"Garfield maybe..." he replies. - TheDudeDiggs, on 07/23/2010, -1/+10Bill Murray is a Pimp!
- EMFK, on 07/23/2010, -0/+9I miss John Belushi and Gilda Radner. One of my favorite movies starring Belushi was "Continental Divide".
- DephexTwin, on 07/24/2010, -0/+7"I honestly have no ***** idea who Christopher Guest is. I know I've seen movies that he was in, but I have no clue WHAT he looks like. He's in Princess Bride? You're stupid. - eugenetabisco, on 07/24/2010, -0/+7The Honorable Mention in the article is worse than the list itself. Lumping Dan Aykroyd and Billy Crystal in with Maya Rudolph (huh?) and Gilda Radner (loved her, but she did horrible films) is ridiculous.
List should be, from 1 to 10:
Bill Murray
Robert Downey, Jr.
Christopher Guest (His contributions will make top 100 lists forever.)
Joan Cusack (stellar in everything — and it's been a lot)
Eddie Murphy
Dan Aykroyd (Oscar nominated, Ghostbusters +writer, My Girl, Grosse Pointe Blank, Trading Places, Blues Brothers +writer, Sneakers)
Billy Crystal (City Slickers, When Harry Met Sally..., Princess Bride, Running Scared, Analyze This)
Michael McKean — aside from the Guest movies, he's been in so much and his performance in "Best in Show" was truly amazing
Ben Stiller — If it wasn't for "Dodgeball" "Something About Mary" and "Permanent Midnight" not sure I'd put him here. His schtick is wearing thin.
Chevy Chase — Some really bad stuff, but "Fletch" and "Caddyshack" will live in infamy.
Honorable Mention: Belushi (the James Dean of SNL), Randy Quaid, Anthony Michael Hall - spinky342, on 07/24/2010, -0/+76 people left on the planet and one of them is Bill-*****-Murray!
- MatzahMan, on 07/24/2010, -2/+8Will Farrell hasn't had a good comedy since Anchorman. Stranger than Fiction was pretty decent though.
- FactorOf13, on 07/24/2010, -0/+5He's not an SNL alumnus?
- kevro, on 07/24/2010, -0/+5I was the only one who laughed when he said that in the theater. Worth it.
- JackieIrish, on 07/24/2010, -0/+4Simply for the fact that he was nominated for an actual Academy Award (Supporting Actor, Driving Miss Daisy), it's ridiculous that Dan Ayckroyd wasn't in the top 10.
- eugenetabisco, on 07/24/2010, -0/+4"I honestly have no ***** idea who Christopher Guest is."
You of course have a right to your opinions (some of which I totally agree), but in that one sentence you lose all credibility to critique an article on film comedy. - afoster2727, on 07/24/2010, -0/+3I love how digg gives users the opportunity to show the world how ***** idiotic their opinions are.
- kevro, on 07/24/2010, -0/+3"but for now it's just Joan" I disagree. One of the original cast members Jane Curtin went on to more success in T.V. and some in movies. Gilda Radner , Julia Louis-Dreyfus , Janeane Garofalo, Tina Fey all had success afterwards. But it does seem like most women of SNL are forgotten after there tenure.
- deusexmachina7, on 07/24/2010, -1/+4It didn't work out for all of them though. I still recall MadTV's description of Jimmy Fallon: "former future movie star."
- absurdist, on 07/24/2010, -0/+2That was Sandler in Taxi Driver? *****, he does a GREAT DeNiro!
- somedummy, on 07/24/2010, -0/+2Christopher Guest is not only in Spinal Tap, but he's been motorboating the fantastic boobs of Jamie Lee Curtis for years.
- absurdist, on 07/24/2010, -0/+2Much sound and fury, signifying nothing.
- dwalker20, on 07/24/2010, -1/+3What??? no Phil Hartman or Chris Farley
- Wolfghost, on 07/24/2010, -0/+2True, a Five Timer's Club member is not a cast member, but I can see where the confusion comes from.
- gekkeijyu, on 07/24/2010, -0/+2they were funny men, but i wouldn't say they were great actors. plus they weren't in that many movies.
- DouglasQ, on 07/24/2010, -1/+3I stopped reading at the first one;
Adam Sandler - great performances: 'Happy Gilmore'.
Right up there with Taxi Driver. - smacksaw, on 07/24/2010, -0/+2FletchVacation?
That would have been interesting. - deinosmos, on 07/24/2010, -0/+1Super controversial, bud-dy.
- theholgates, on 07/24/2010, -1/+2Joan Cusack?! WTF!
- theholgates, on 07/24/2010, -0/+1The problem is with their metrics. They're saying they're not including TV careers cause somehow it's comparing apples & oranges. Totally BS. What Tina Fey (especially) and Amy Poehler have done with their TV careers is at least equal to if not greater than what Will Farrell has done in film...

"Did they ever find a successful vehicle for Ellen Cleghorne?" - tommyr, on 07/24/2010, -0/+1Dugg for "motorboating the fantastic boobs of Jamie Lee Curtis for years."
Lucky bastard!
P.S.,
I'd eat Activia out of her ass. - zebragrrl, on 07/24/2010, -0/+1I was going to ask this very same question.. then I read up on Hanks' relationship to the show. The list of hosts with large numbers of episodes is really quite an impressive list of actors as well, including the likes of Alec Baldwin, John Goodman, Christopher Walken, Elliot Gould, Danny DeVito, and others.
I was a little disappointed that Steve Martin wasn't on the list.. but then neither was Dan Aykroyd. - kaosethema, on 07/24/2010, -0/+1dugg for bill murray...
almost buried it for will ferrell... the guys plays the same ***** role!!!! - DephexTwin, on 07/24/2010, -0/+1Steve Martin wasn't a cast member.
- vagrantwade, on 07/24/2010, -4/+4These comments suck. Both Happy Gilmore and Will Ferrell are hilarious.
- perkoff, on 07/24/2010, -3/+3Will Ferrell overrated bore who was in one good movie(Step Brothers).
- tommyr, on 07/24/2010, -1/+1Fallon sucks. There I said it.
- avirk86, on 07/24/2010, -3/+1How is there no Tom Hanks?
- HuggsAndKisses, on 07/23/2010, -6/+4Joan Cusack!?!?! Robert Downey Jr!?!?!? the 80's SNL lineups were crazy. But chris farley needs to make the list.
- Wolfghost, on 07/24/2010, -8/+4I would agree with you if your comment was "Will Farrell hasn't had a good comedy."
- JBKMDX, on 07/24/2010, -5/+0Will Ferrell isn't funny. However, Stranger Than Fiction was fantastic. If Ferrell would just give up comedy altogether and make movies like STF, I'd be all for it. People thought Adam Sandler was funny until you try and rewatch his movies, then you realize they're just ***** horrid. We're giving Joan Cusack a place on the list because she did voice work for 3 Toy Story movies? Pathetic.
Chris Farley had one good movie, Tommy Boy. Black Sheep (Tommy Boy 2) was the exact same movie with the same jokes. He was a one-trick-pony.
Chevy Chase shouldn't even qualify. Fletch and the National Lampoon's Vacation movies aren't exactly a stellar resume when you consider how ***** old his last good movie was.
I honestly have no ***** idea who Christopher Guest is. I know I've seen movies that he was in, but I have no clue WHAT he looks like. He's in Princess Bride? Was he Humperdink? Oh great, a bunch of indy flicks no one has seen. Let's just put that ahead of all the others.
Ben Stiller? No. He shouldn't even be higher than Ferrell. One of the least funny ***** that make "comedy" movies.
Jesus Christ, Belushi gets 3rd for FOUR movies? I love Animal House as much as the next guy, but if you look at how many quality films someone like Eddie Murphy has done (I'm not talking all oscar winners, but he's had a lot of enjoyable ones) he's done a LOT better than Belushi. Can we stop jacking up spots just because a star overdosed or blew their brains out?
I'm not going to argue against Bill ***** Murray, but I'd throw out half of that list of his movies. Meatballs sucked btw.
