- megamod, on 07/21/2010, -5/+262Too bad that by actually covering the gap up you're actually removing the function that said sticker advertises =)
- reposado, on 07/21/2010, -48/+229I feel like this is getting a bit old.
If you dont want one dont buy one etc etc blah blah blah
Lets all move on with our lives now... - readme, on 07/21/2010, -20/+169Last week wants its jokes back.
- seltaeb4, on 07/21/2010, -23/+135OK, Gizmodo. Get over it.
- Lunarparcel, on 07/22/2010, -6/+89Yeah, I have to admit, this whole thing is starting to feel a bit old in internet time.
So all I have to say is: ***** you, two of my friends died from end calls.
I can haz end callz?
I'm tired of these mother *****' ENDS on these mother *****' CALLS!
Ron Paul is on a horse - ejlhp, on 07/22/2010, -5/+53Last week's call was lost.
- wordfan, on 07/22/2010, -10/+50The small but significant loss of signal when the phone is held in the left hand is insignificant compared to the proximity sensor issue. My iphone 4 has dropped very few calls, but I've sure as ***** hung up on plenty of people accidentally, and muted them, called other people, etc. It's basically unusable as a phone and based on what I've heard other people say, it seems widespread. But hey, at least there's a 30 day return policy. I do hate having to buy another sim for my 3G since I activated the piece of *****, but I knew the risks of buying a brand new product. I guess I'm supposed to hate Apple or join a class action, but somehow returning it just seems the appropriate response.
The one thing about the antenna issue that stands out is just how easy it would have been to avoid. A thin coating of something would have worked, or putting one of the antenna inside the case. When it only changes when you hold it with your left hand, it just means you built it wrong. All you had to do was avoid making it so that a hand would bridge those two antenna - if the seam had been at the bottom instead of on the side, no problem. But still, a minor flaw in an overwhelmingly flawed but otherwise good product. - JD52, on 07/21/2010, -5/+41I will bet money that on September 20th, the date that Jobs mentioned in the press conference, they are going to have and updated unit with a hardware fix and your phone will then be obsolete.
Why Sept. 20th? Because they need the time between now and then to sell all the defective ones they are on the hook with the manufacturer for. - CdnPhoto, on 07/22/2010, -5/+35This was funny though.
I still want an iPhone 4. - TheInformer, on 07/22/2010, -1/+21Gizmodo spent $5000 in R&D for that sticker.
- GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 07/22/2010, -2/+22You read all of the comments and responded to mine (snarkily.)
What I did provided some insight for people.
What you did was kinda douchie. - serif69, on 07/22/2010, -2/+18Play him off, keyboard cat.
- DirtyFries, on 07/21/2010, -12/+27I think Giz might be a little bitter...
- Juaquin, on 07/22/2010, -1/+16Seriously, the proximity sensor issue is killing me. I don't give a ***** about the antenna (I always have a case on my phone because I'm paranoid) but using the PHONE part of the iPHONE is damn near impossible when I'm muting or hanging up on every single call. Jobs damn well better have a software fix for this.
- Lactar, on 07/22/2010, -0/+15"I'm sorry, the fingers you are using are too fat. If you would like to order a special dialing wand, please mash the keypad now"
- d4ftpunk, on 07/22/2010, -3/+17Is that irony, or is it more like rain on your wedding day?
- cuervoman914, on 07/22/2010, -1/+14itunes is also a piece of flaming *****
- wickedawesome19, on 07/22/2010, -2/+14its not real, dummies
- mydigglogin, on 07/22/2010, -4/+15SOB. Stole my idea. http://digg.com/tech_news/Apple_Engineer_Told_Jobs ...
- redassassin7, on 07/22/2010, -2/+12do do do do dooo do do dooo
- PhoebusAl, on 07/22/2010, -0/+10yesyouareright
- ThatEbayer, on 07/22/2010, -0/+9The gizmodo guy is still angry about his house being ransacked so you can bet he is going to milk this until its dry
- JonesJohnson, on 07/22/2010, -1/+10I went to the Apple Store the day before the 'antennagate' press conference, and they gave me a new one after I said I had the proximity sensor issues. The dude at the Genius Bar told me that there was a new update to iOS (4.0.1) that came out that day, but I told him I had read that it only changes how the bars are displayed and had nothing to do with the proximity sensor.
He gave me a new one. Just go in and complain. Apparently, if you go in and complain within the first month of owning a product, they'll pretty much swap it out for you. I've even heard of people cracking their phones after a drop, and Apple replaced them. Maybe the whole "we want to make our customers happy" is true.
Oh, and my face no longer hangs up on people. - ehaugan, on 07/22/2010, -2/+11Cool story bro!
- eepi, on 07/22/2010, -2/+10can we sue?
- Azsen, on 07/22/2010, -3/+11The ironic thing is, unless that sticker is conductive it will actually prevent the signal drop/call disconnection. Joke fail.
- Timmyftw, on 07/22/2010, -0/+8The white space between "thirty dollars.." and HAHA! is really what takes that comment to another level.
- sierrabravo, on 07/22/2010, -3/+11No they didn't. Gizmodo "acquired" the idea for this sticker...
- flangepiece, on 07/22/2010, -1/+9I've heard it's salty, but damned if I'm going to find out.
- solecize, on 07/22/2010, -0/+7Yo Dawg- I heard you like dropped calls so we put an iphone antenna on your iphone antenna so you could drop while you drop.
- wordfan, on 07/22/2010, -0/+7So because your phone works just fine I'm a spoiled brat for not being grateful for my phone, even though I can't actually talk on the thing because it's faulty. You're a ***** idiot.
- nextwiggin4, on 07/21/2010, -7/+14n't
- KayPasa, on 07/21/2010, -9/+15It's more like adding form to function, amirite?
- GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 07/22/2010, -9/+15I have to say. So far I have been able to find references to "avoiding contact with internal and external antennas" in the user manuals Nokia, Samsung, LG and Motorola phones.
- gerrylazlo, on 07/22/2010, -0/+6Since your comment wasn't amusing, I also thought you were serious.
- crcurran, on 07/22/2010, -1/+7Gizmodo has become a sad, pathetic corner of the Internet
- lodcrappo, on 07/22/2010, -0/+6@Timmyftw
agreed! effective white space use can turn an otherwise boring comment into something really special. they should teach this stuff in schools. - elmuerte17, on 07/22/2010, -0/+5When you say "huge backlash," you actually mean "rush to buy the newer, incrementally better model," right?
- Kontra8, on 07/22/2010, -5/+10I feel like commenting like this is getting old.
If you don't like the article don't read one. Don't even comment on one. etc etc blah blah blah
See what i did there? - Anothersoldier, on 07/22/2010, -0/+5I've_got_you_both_beat
- UselessTrivia, on 07/22/2010, -2/+7They need one of those for the screen too. The death grip just makes the dropped call rate double or so. The proximity sensor, on the other hand, makes it so you hang up with just about everyone with your face.
- el_jefe, on 07/22/2010, -1/+5Eh, consider it freedom from people you never really wanted to talk to in the first place but felt obligated to call. Steve just sacked up and made the decision for you and now you have more time.
I'm so glad I didnt upgrade. Antenna, proximity sensor. What next? - 11oops, on 07/22/2010, -0/+4Plus weren't they were hiding the phones in the wild in 3G styled cases? The testers wouldn't have had the problem.
- 11oops, on 07/22/2010, -0/+4The 'free bumper' offer only applies until September 30. At that time, Apple says they will "examine" the situation again, and decide to extend the free bumpers or offer a different solution. I'm thinking there will be redesigned hardware by then.
- thomn8r, on 07/22/2010, -0/+4In Soviet Russia, calls end you!
- Leit89, on 07/22/2010, -0/+4Gizmodo spent $5000 to "acquire" the idea for this sticker.
- farfle10, on 07/22/2010, -0/+4i do think that would qualify as irony, yes. not "ten thousand spoons and all you need is a knife"
- Charlie1er, on 07/22/2010, -2/+6I want an iPhone 4. The one with the bigger gee bees.
- BlackhaloZ, on 07/22/2010, -0/+4"The one thing about the antenna issue that stands out is just how easy it would have been to avoid."
I can't help but wonder that due to the issues around the "leaked" alpha version of the phone, and Apple's obsession with secrecy, resulted in an overly limited beta test, that might have revealed the issue, had it been tested across a wider audience. - maximilen, on 07/21/2010, -9/+13I'm not sure how exactly it's ironic, but Gizmodo reporting on this feels interesting.
