PREFACE

On December 24, 2009, Hazel Brown jumped off the New York Bridge at exactly 1:51pm, and her body was never found. Legend has it that the river underneath the bridge has no bottom and holds many secrets and shames. Many people alleged that by jumping, it was her way to escape her life’s ills that this cold world had to offer. People who kne her well also said that she is in a much happier place now. A place where there is no more deceit, no more pain, no more drugs, and no more heartbreak. When you read this story, know that I put my all into this novel in an effort to tell the story of a young woman who, by the time she was eighteen, had seen more than most wise men could ever fathom. Through these pages I give you the raw, untold account of a fascinating lady who I once knew...who I once loved...who I once hated. Please read in between the lines carefully and walk with her as her story allows you to look through the eyes of a young black girl lost and a stone-cold dopefiend. Hazel Brown is a person who we all know...a person who somehow got lost in the sauce and fell victim to the flipside of the drug game. Hazel’s character symbolizes something so much bigger than herself. There is a whole nation full of young black women just like her.
