Cultured Expressions is pleased to announce that 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the publication of Global Expressions: Decorating with Fabrics from Around the World by Lisa Shepard. Featuring African sadza batik, Indian block printing, Japanese sashiko, Turkish marbled fabrics and other textile traditions, the book provides a “world tour in fabric” as it introduces readers to the authentic textiles, and offers step-by-step projects using them.
Global Expressions is Lisa’s first followup book to African Accents, which was released in 1999, marking its 10th anniversary in 2009.

Cultured Expressions Leather Jacket Remake
Here’s an idea that was churning in my mind for months. Finally I took the time to execute it. I repurposed an old leather jacket into a handbag and a shorter bolero-length jacket. In true Cultured Expressions style, I finished the bag with a brass adinkra symbol. This symbol, NKYINKYIN, means adapting to new roles, much like the jacket that was transformed. Enjoy the photos of the process & additional notes. For more tips on making handbags, check out On the Go! Designing Accessories with Cultural Style
