Includes more of the articles than the blog and [...] articles, April 23, 2010
This review is from: The Onion (Kindle Edition)
Thanks to Amazon's 14 day free trials, I was able to try both the Onion Newspaper and the
The Onion Blog. The main difference is the newspaper is weekly and the blog is daily. The newspaper and blog (website) articles are the same, however the blog contains just 63% (17/27) of the articles published within the previous four days whereas the newspaper contains 92% (34/37) of the articles published within the previous 7 days, based on the issues of each I used for this analysis. Paying for a blog, and only getting 63% of the updates (and not even all the updates for the current day) is appaling. Given this is fake news, I don't mind only receiving it once a week, and at least you are getting 92% of the articles published online and in the actual newspaper. Also, the newspaper includes all the [...] articles (approximately 35), which are real entertainment news including TV, Games, Film, Music, DVD, and Books reviews, interviews -- which you don't any of these on the blog. As far as the content, if you aren't familiar with it, just go to [...] and give it a twirl before coming here. These are deadpan satirical articles, not meant to be taken seriously by any stretch of the imagination. The articles sometimes miss the mark, but others are the funniest entertainment I can get anywhere, and well worth a couple bucks a month. [...]

Well Formatted Slice of Satire, October 22, 2010
This review is from: The Onion (Kindle Edition)
What more need be said about a publication that contains breaking headlines such as, "Art World Relived As Thieves Steal Pretty Terrible Late Period Renoir Work"? You get the subtle, sneaky humor, or you don't. For those that do, the issue at hand is whether the Kindle edition is worth the price.
As a new Kindle user, one of the things I look for in a magazine is not just the quality of what's inside, but how well its put together and formatted and how much I'm paying vs what get. Is it a hastily assembled afterthought with little real effort compared to the print or web version, or am I actually paying for something that sees fit to put a professional degree of effort into the product?
In my opinion, The Onion does a decent job in taking its silliness quite seriously.
*Formatting*
One of the major complaints among "serious" newspapers catering to the Kindle crowd is that pictures, graphics, and sometimes even whole sections are missing and formatting is often underwhelming with little attention paid to making use of the Kindle's abilities. Not only does The Onion include pics, graphics, and satirical political cartoons to enrich the experience, it is easy to navigate. One cannot help but get the impression that the other guys just aren't trying.
*Value*
The current price ($2.50 a month, or about $0.63 an issue rounded up) isn't too bad for what you get. You get more sections and articles than most mainstream magazines and papers in that price range, with sections devoting to skewering everything including News, Sports, Opinion, Entertainment, and others. Ten sections and in my premiere issue, 51 separate articles. That's actually a fully loaded magazine minus the ads (which if they did have they'd likely only make fun of anyway). Not bad at all for the price of a candy bar.
The quirky, subtle brand of humor won't appeal to everyone (hence the less than perfect score), but those that choose to indulge in it won't be disappointed by lazy assembly or lack of content.

Great Paper, March 14, 2010
This review is from: The Onion (Kindle Edition)
The Onion is a wonderful newspaper and a well kept secret. It is not a serious newspaper, it makes jokes, if you can't accept that then this is not for you
