Should be a BIG Negative (----) 5 Stars @#$%%#$$%^^^&, December 9, 2011
This review is from: Architectural Digest (Kindle Edition)
A.D...Are you out of your mind? Why don't you fall in line and follow HG! I'm sure you know what happen to them, at the age of IPAD and Kindle, I think magazine publishers needed to keep up to stay alive...AD do you hate your subscribers and ad supporters?
Background: I'm a long time print subscriber of A.D. (Architectural Digest, US) magazine, probably too long. I also embraced Zinio as soon as I'd heard of them, thinking tablet will encourage a renaissance of new magazine or newspaper publications in digital format, owned both IPAD & Kindle Fire, hated Kindle Reader for one reason, see my notes below under CONS!, Architecture is my trade, I used most of my books and magazines for reference and research for design and specifications. Please note that A.D. (US) is only available for Kindle Fire (not compatible to Kindle Reader for PC or Mac), not available for IPAD and Zinio.
PROS:
Nothing good for Architectural Digest Digital, but I was really surprised not to mind viewing magazine pages on a Kindle Fire, its better on an IPAD, but Fire is smaller and easier to handle, pictures are vibrant, zoom and text features work nicely, when you zoom in, the text are not as sharp as on an IPAD, but A.D. are all about pictures, text are very minimal compares to a New Yorker..... Fire & IPAD are made for these type of publications, if it came with the right features. One good thing...the interface is not bad.
CONS:
NO BOOKMARK !, Oh Lord....Please help your subscribers....I subscribed to a LOT of printed magazines, I don't have the room to archived all of them and it's practically next to impossible to search for a particular article or advertisement when you needed them, what I usually do is to tear out the page of the article or an advertisement that I find interesting as a reference material for an ongoing project or for future use, honestly...I'd used a lot of these images for client presentations, to help client better understand a design or a particular product that I'm trying to introduce. So having "Bookmark" will help us use the magazine more and encourage us to continue subscribing, without it, AD is just another pile of digital junk to throw away.....(Zinio got it!)
Not available for IPAD and Zinio. Not compatible to Kindle Reader for PC & Mac.....Really A.D., do we need to pay extra for it, Elle Décor and Travel magazine offered thier digital format for free to their subscribers, get that Architectural Digest !
Can't print any part of the magazine, not even the ads. Same bad goes to Kindle Reader. (You could print on Zinio with watermarks).
No interactive pages and not even links to connect to commercial websites, why go digital at all! Please help you're paying sponsors to promote their product. (Zinio got it!)
Wish List:
Same format for all digital readers...like the digital music now.
Print feature please!
Conclusion:
Do not buy or subscribe to Architectural Digest (Kindle Fire Format) at this time; don't encourage them to abuse their subscribers and advertising supporters. I hope AD could learn from other digital magazines and improve. Good Luck! Maybe it's time to evaluate if I even want to continue my print AD subscriptions like when I stop my Netflix!
