Parental Controls

With Parental Controls, you choose which video content is available for viewing or purchase on the Web or on your compatible registered device. When Parental Controls are enabled, the following applies:

  • Videos up to and including the selected level are available.
  • Higher rating levels are restricted.
  • Restricted videos can't be viewed or purchased.
    • Kindle Fire: Parental Controls set the level of viewing restriction for Movies and TV Shows. Visit the Kindle Fire Help page for information about restricting purchases.

Your Amazon Instant Video PIN can be used to bypass Parental Controls from your Web browser.

Note: Amazon Instant Video Parental Controls don't apply to the Amazon Instant Video app on your Xbox. For information about setting Xbox parental controls, visit the Amazon Instant Video on Xbox Help page.

Ratings Definitions

Amazon Instant Video uses the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) ratings classification system and the TV Guidelines Organization TV Parental Guidelines as the basis for the Parental Controls setting.

We've combined the TV and movie ratings into categories that make it easy to set the Parental Controls level.

For detailed information on ratings, go to the MPAA or TV Guidelines Organization.

Setting Parental Controls

Any Kindle Fire, Roku, PlayStation 3, or Bravia TV or Blu-Ray player you've registered with your Amazon Instant Video account can use Parental Controls. To apply the Parental Controls setting to a device, check the box next to each device below the Restrictions.

To set your Parental Controls:

  1. Go to http://www.amazon.com/video/settings.
  2. Select the level of Parental Controls to apply to your selected devices.
  3. Select each registered device you want to apply Parental Controls.
