I bought this to use in home server running 2011, so far its seems pretty snappy. Its a good fit with the half the power draw of the normal 2120, since this computer will be running 24/7.

This CPU came with the low-profile stock cooler in an Intel retail box, despite the picture here being only the CPU.
I bought the i3-2120T (and an Asrock H67M-ITX motherboard) to replace the AMD Athlon X2 3800+ (circa 2006) in my HTPC whose motherboard had died. I use the HTPC primarily for Windows Media Center, and my goal was to achieve a similar level of performance, with a reduced power footprint, while being quiet.
I'm impressed. Startup time is quicker, the Media Center interface is more responsive, and the HD2000 integrated graphics seem to handle watching live TV, recorded TV, and DVDs just fine.
The stock cooler is pretty loud when it's on full blast. However, the Asrock motherboard BIOS allows you to set a minimum initial fan level. I set the target to Level 1 (the lowest) and it's now virtually silent, only ramping up when the CPU gets hot.

I purchased this to put in my new whs 2011 system along with a cooler master hyper 212 plus and it runs cool and quiet. It's able to handle my storage and media streaming tasks just fine. I would go for the 65w tdp chips if you plan on doing a lot of transcoding. I was just trying to use as little power as possible since it is on almost 24/7.

hits the spot, does what it needs to do
eventhough it's the older sandy bridge model, it still has a nice rating of 35W compared to the newer ivy bridge processors, which do not have this yet, from what I've seen. Read more

Low power and excellent performance
I'm using this CPU to build HTPC's and small servers combined with Intel C20x chipset. Runs quite cool and the included fan is silent.

awesome chip for htpc
This actually comes in an intel retail box not oem like in the picture. Chips runs cooler than my 2125 and works like a charm in an asrock h67m-itx motherboard. Read more
