Oct-18-12 Plachetka vs L Zinn, 1974

Rama: Missing 12. Qh5! I saw that 12. Ng4 also threatened immediate mate which qualified it as a good move to me. The response 12. ... e5, leads to some very cute tactics and is fun to play out. It may even be winning even though inferior.

Rama: No one ever plays 5. ... cxd4. I like that, it is from Alekhine.

|
Rama: I love this opening, both sides of it.
How about the simple 6. a3 cxd4, 7. cxd4 Nge7. The N is headed for f5 and may be protected by h5. Nc3-a4 is indicated for white. This is a classic duel for the d4 square.

Rama: Abdul felt the pressure I guess, and deviated from symmetry on move 16. It cost him. :)

| | Sep-01-12 G Vazquez vs M Sebenik, 2012
|
Rama: 7. Bd3? ..., leads drectly to 12. ... Qxc5, and total loss of white's center. The reason is, after 10. ... Qb6, 11. Nb3 ..., is unplayable because of the pawn fork c5-c4. 7. Be2 ..., would have avoided this, which players of the French Advance know instinctively, or should.

| | Sep-01-12 M Perunovic vs E Berg, 2012
|
Rama: Instead of 11. ... Nxd4, I like 11. ... Nf5, it could be winning. The d4 square has been conquered and after 12. c3 ..., a new target appears on the half-open file along with a handy square for a N on c4.
