Angelina Jolie took the stage at the 4th Annual Women In The World Summit  on Thursday (April 4) to honor Malala Yousafzai – the 15-year-old Pakistani student activist who was shot by the Taliban in October for advocating for equal-opportunity education in her country.

Speaking on stage at New York City’s Lincoln Center – Jolie said of the student, “The Taliban shot her at point-bank range in the head, and made her stronger. In a brutal attempt to silence her voice, it grew louder.”

Via video feed Yousafzai said, “This is the happiest moment of my life. If we can educate 40 girls, we can educate 40 million girls.”

The actress also recently confirmed that she has opened an girls-only primary school in Afghanistan. The school is located in a village outside of Kabul and educates 200 and 300 girls.

E! News reports Jolie – the UNHCR Goodwill ambassador - picked the village as the site of the school due to its high refugee population. Families are slowly starting to return to the once-devastated area.

Jolie is funding the schools by using 100 percent of the profits from her new personally designed jewelry collection -  Style of Jolie.

“Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels, we are inspired by knowing our work is also serving the mutual goal of providing for children in need,” Jolie told E! News exclusively.

she and brad have been very quiet and low key lately. which has been quite nice….guess it is time for them to bump up the publicity so no one forgets about them.

Is it me or she does look pregnant lately?

  4. Dee

Yes. was just thinking she looks pregnant ! I really like that she opened a school there. It’s not like she has too or does it for attention. I think the fact she is helping empower afghan girls is amazing, if only more celebrity’s used the fortune to better this world it would make their status deserved.
