Social media policy

Twitter

The Australian Defence Force Twitter account is managed by the digital media team on behalf of colleagues across the Department of Defence.

If you follow @DeptDefence we will not automatically follow you back. This is to discourage the use of direct messaging, avoid resource wasting spam handling and so that you can also easily identify other key Twitter users that we think are relevant. However, being followed by @DeptDefence does not imply endorsement of any kind.

We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers, and endeavour to join the conversation where possible. However, we are not able to reply individually to all the messages we receive via Twitter.

The digital media team reads all @replies and Direct Messages and ensures that any emerging themes or helpful suggestions are passed to the relevant people in the Department.

We cannot engage on issues of politics or answer question which break the rules of our general response policy.

The usual ways of contacting us for official correspondence are detailed in the contact us section of our website.

Review of Social Media and Defence

A review of social media and Defence was undertaken by George Patterson Y&R in 2011 which included a number of recommendations for the Department.
