What is a portal?

  • It is a single point of access to general and specific information on the World Wide Web.
  • It can deal with the many facets of a particular field or subject, such as language, health, Aboriginal issues, etc.

What kind of information can I find in the Language Portal?

The Portal provides

  • free access to language tools online;
  • articles and writing tips;
  • word games and exercises;
  • Canadian-made writing tools;
  • a collection of links to language-related works and sites;
  • Canadian content produced by governments, universities, and others;
  • documents in English and French, and in some Aboriginal languages; and
  • much more.

  • There is something new every week.

How can I quickly find the latest updates to the site?

Can I print out copies of the games and other information on this Web site?

Why is the content not exactly the same on the Language Portal and Portail linguistique?

  • Both sites have the same objective of promoting the use of Canada's official languages; however, their content is not identical.
  • The Language Portal team makes every effort to provide similar or equivalent content in English and French. However, this is not always possible.
  • The content of each site is tailored to deal with usage in that language because English and French have different rules of grammar, syntax and style.

Who decides what kind of content is included in the Language Portal?

  • The English and French writing/editing teams decide what type of content to include in the Portal. Their choice is guided by editorial guidelines and feedback received from users.
