Introducing the Language Portal of Canada

The Government of Canada welcomes you to the Language Portal of Canada.

The Language Portal of Canada is funded through the Roadmap for Canada’s Official Languages 2013-2018: Education, Immigration, Communities.

The Language Portal's creators have gathered a wealth of resources to help you communicate more effectively in English and French. Canadian organizations interested in language can also contribute new content to this site.

  • TERMIUM Plus® is yours free of charge! You now have access to nearly four million English, French and Spanish terms from the Translation Bureau's terminology and linguistic data bank.
  • Many Writing Tools are now available to you. You can hone your English and French language skills.
  • Gateway to English | Le français sans secrets allows you to search simultaneously in 16 writing tools, hundreds of language articles and quizzes on the Language Portal of Canada, and the Translation Bureau’s Linguistic Recommendations and Reminders. You can quickly find answers to your language questions without having to consult all these resources one at a time.
  • The Flash Quiz challenges you with a new language question every time you click on Home.
  • Our Headlines keep you informed about language-related news from across Canada.
  • Discover presents, in an orderly way, hundreds of Canadian Web resources that deal with the practical and theoretical aspects of language, language training, language professions, and much more.
  • Resources Coast to Coast regroups the same Web resources by province and territory.
  • From Our Contributors contains articles written by various stakeholders from the language community.
  • The What's New? section will be updated each week, so you'll always be in the know.
