Beach/Surfing area[edit]

The specific beaches and surfing breaks need to be somehow either included or linked to this article - the template Newcastle area or designating it as a 'beach of new south wales' is too general - someone needs to identify the sperate localities - if it is a port as well and a few other things to identify Newcastle with/ or as a 'beach' is insufficient... The Jets[edit]

A user recently updated the year/s part of the following: "The Jets are currently playing in the 2011/12 A-League season, and their tenth in the Australian National Competition." If this is a valid edit then the season should be updated to "eleventh". Can someone with appropriate knowledge follow this up, please. Downsize43 (talk) 11:56, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

The revision as of 21:05, 31 August 2011, returning "soccer" to its rightful place, also reverted the change (as suggested above) from "eleventh" season to "tenth". I could change it back, but have no proof of its accuracy - so will leave it to someone else. As an aside, perhaps a soccer expert could attempt to encourage 121.217.1.5 to become a more constructive editor and share his knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport with the wider readership. Commercial Areas[edit]

Thoughts on listing commercial areas and notable businesses? I've seen this done for other pages. Linking to companies like Hungry Jacks or Winning Appliances. M0z (talk) 23:38, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Domestic Architecture[edit]

What idiot put these images here? These are possibly the worst examples of Architecture in Newcastle. In particular the image http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sympathetic_Development.jpg is apalling. It is absolutely not sympathetic!

For some more appropriate pieces of Architecture which better display Newcastle's Heritage, please take a photo of

  • "Hill House", #40 The Terrace - an historic old home I believe originally built for the Governor of Nctle. http://g.co/maps/ma6d3 (which incidentally is why it is situated right beside the bogey hole)
  • The Frederic Ash building on Hunter street is a nice image of sympathetic development http://g.co/maps/jbbfj

other notable architectural spoils in Nctle include

  • the Newcastle Club http://g.co/maps/pybv8
  • despite serious neglect the AYH is also a building steeped in history, previously being built primarily as a gentlemen's club house but was comandeered as an emergency doctor's quarters for the hospital during the war: http://g.co/maps/6z2xc
  • the former Royal Newcastle Hospital: another example of adaptive reuse in Newcastle, an architectural technique involving using old buildings to make new urban spaces http://g.co/maps/5nzx8
  • refurbished woolsheds as museums and bars: further example of successful adaptive reuse http://g.co/maps/fxdfq
  • Wickham Public School which is actually used by the Australian Federal Government as a case study to show councils how adaptive reuse should be done http://g.co/maps/w7vma
  • The customs house which is a very old piece of novocastrian architecture: http://g.co/maps/b8dbf
  • and the Post Office: http://g.co/maps/u7jvd
  • This street http://g.co/maps/jz7c8 (Parnell Place) and this street http://g.co/maps/bcdh7 (The Terrace) are two of the oldest streets in Newcastle and are of signicant historical relevance to Newcastle Proper.

Come on people, Newcastle is the Jewel in the Crown of NSW - we should be putting our best foot forward for wikipedia. If you use some shitty EJE crap built by stronachs as examples of "architecture" it is absolutely no wonder why people call Newcastle a shit-hole.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.78.32.22 (talkcontribs) 02:55, 25 November 2011‎ (UTC)

Citations[edit]

How do you add citations? Wrote a bit in Football, that is true and I need to verify. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.198.80.37 (talkcontribs) 21:15, 17 May 2013‎ (UTC)

Wikipedia:Citing sources explains it all. You can use a template like {{cite web}} to add citations easily. --AussieLegend () 06:20, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Incorrect spelling of traditional name[edit]

The aboriginal name for newcastle is listed as "Malubimba", however I've seen it spelled "Muloobinba" - particularly on the Newcastle Council website here: http://www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au/about_newcastle/history_and_heritage/newcastles_history

There is also a mural with the word "Muloobinba" at the main Stockton ferry jetty.

The traditional owners never wrote it down, so there is no "correct" spelling. It might be good to aim for some sort of consistency, but I don't think it's important to push these issues too hard. HiLo48 (talk) 02:39, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
