List of municipalities in Georgia (U.S. state)

As of May 2013, there were 536 incorporated municipalities in the U.S. state of Georgia. The municipalities are labelled cities or towns, although there is no legal difference between a city or town in Georgia.^{[citation needed]}.

Six municipalities listed below have merged with their counties to form consolidated city-counties.

Athens-Clarke County
Augusta-Richmond County
Columbus-Muscogee County
Cusseta-Chattahoochee County
Georgetown-Quitman County
Macon-Bibb County

Of these six, Athens-Clarke, Augusta-Richmond and Macon-Bibb Counties also have municipalities independent of the consolidated governments.

Payne City, a small city in Macon-Bibb County, is expected to ask the Macon-Bibb Legislative Delegation to take their charter and allow them to consolidate within Macon-Bibb County.

In two counties, Echols and Webster, existing municipalities were abolished, leaving only unified county governments comparable to the consolidated city-county governments listed above.

Two municipalities have been formed since the 2010 Census: Peachtree Corners in Gwinnett County, and Brookhaven in DeKalb County. As of February 2013, no official Census count or estimate of either town has been published.

The boundaries of Peachtree Corners^[2] are nearly coterminous with the boundaries of zip code #30092.^[3] The 2010 census population of this zip code was 31,704.^[4]
The former Census Designated Place of North Atlanta, Georgia, is contained within the boundaries of Brookhaven. The 2010 census population of this CDP was 40,456.^[4] A 2012 article on the vote to create Brookhaven claims an estimated population of 49,000, but with no source citation.^[5]
