    Hospital Performance

    Measuring hospital care

Between 2006 and 2011, the Fraser Institute published a series of Hospital Report Cards assessing up to 50 measures of patient safety and quality of care for acute care hospitals in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.

These measures were provided only for informational purposes. Those in need of health care should seek the advice of their physician before making any decisions on medical treatment.

Such comparisons can also help improve hospital performance through enhanced transparency and accountability.

Our Hospital Report Card looked at three categories for each hospital:

    1. Hospital procedures
    2. Medical conditions
    3. Medical conditions related to child birth

The goal of the Hospital Report Card series was to contribute to the improvement of hospital care for all Canadians.
