    14. When will the interns be selected?
    1. Q: To whom should I address my cover letter?
A: Please address it to Student Programs, Fraser Institute. Applications are reviewed by several people during the selection process.

    2. Q: Can foreign students (outside of Canada) apply for the intern program?
A: Yes. American and other international students are welcome to apply for the program, as long as they are eligible to work in Canada. Please note, however, that only domestic (within Canada) travel expenses are reimbursed.

    3. Q: Do you accept applications for work terms other than the terms listed?
A: Work term start dates may be flexible, although they are set at a certain length (usually four months). New internship positions that arise throughout the year are posted on our website.

    4. Q: What kind of writing sample should I submit?
A: The writing sample should be a brief demonstration of your research and writing abilities. A 6-page length is given as a broad guideline. We are not concerned with font size, paragraph spacing or word count.
The writing sample does not have to be on the same topic as the research project(s) that you are applying for. It does not have to be a new piece of writing. For example, you may want to use a portion of a paper that you submitted for a school course, or an article that was submitted to or published in a newspaper or journal.

    5. Q: Are the internships posted the only internships available?
A: All available internships are posted on our website. Internships can vary and sometimes internships are not available in all of our offices or in a certain field. If you don’t see a position or the city you want, it means there are currently no openings.

    6. Q: I am not enrolled in the suggested area of study. Can I still apply for the research project?
A: Yes, you may still apply for the project.

    7. Q: If I am applying for more than one research project, should I send a separate application package for each one?
A: No. Send one package (résumé, cover letter, and writing sample) and mention on the cover page which project(s) you are applying for.

    8. Q: May I apply for all the research projects?
A: You may apply for any projects that interest you. As the projects are in varied policy areas (and in different cities), we encourage you to carefully review them and only apply for those to which you are best suited.

    9. Q: Should I include transcripts, reference letters, or other documents in my application package?
A: You may include any additional information that you wish, although it is not required. We may also request further information from short-listed applicants before an interview.

    10. Q: Can a Fraser Institute internship fulfill a co-op term requirement?
A: Yes. Many of our past interns were working toward a co-op degree.

    11. Q: What time of day is the deadline?
A: 5 pm Pacific, which is the end of day at the Fraser Institute office in Vancouver.

    12. Q: Should I phone or email you to confirm that you received my application?
A: No. All intern applications received will be acknowledged via auto-reply. Applications sent by email using the proper subject header "Internship Application"  will be acknowledged as they are received. If you do not receive an acknowledgement by email within a week of the application deadline, then you may call or email to confirm that your application was received.

    13. Q: How will interviews be conducted?
A: By telephone, or in the various regional offices of the Fraser Institute for local students.

    14. Q: When will the interns be selected?
A: The intern selection process will begin immediately following the application deadline. Please note that this is a very competitive program and the selection process does take several weeks. All applicants will be contacted once the intern selections have been made.
