Building a sound policy climate to support mining

The mining industry has long been a critical part of economic growth for countries throughout the world. But governments need to enact policies that encourage mining if they want to continue receiving the economic benefits of the mining sector.

In the developing world, a successful mining project often leads to increased numbers of jobs, increased incomes, and educational opportunities for a country’s citizens. Mining is often one of the first steps in combating poverty.

In addition to scholarly research on mining policy, the Fraser Institute maintains MiningFacts.org: a resource for Canadian mining information. Written for a general audience, the website offers timely research and articles examining the economic, environmental, and social impacts of mining in Canada and around the world.
