The Registry by Categories

African American Registry’s website is divided into twelve categories for text articles with two additional categories for media (video and podcast). The categories show the wide range of lifestyles through the Black experience. Search any of our categories for text articles: Education, Activist/abolitionist, Film/TV, Music, Episodes, Theater/the Arts, Literature, Science/Medicine, Politics/Law/Military, Business, Sports/Outdoors, and Religion. Our two media categories are: Culture and Heritage.

  • Activist / Abolitionist.

    Activist and Abolitionist were men and women who fought against African slavery and for black equality in America since the Civil War.

  • Business

    This category includes blacks in finance, engineers, journalist, architects, inventors or own companies; work in corporate settlings and more.

  • Education

    Features Black educators, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Black faculties, teachers, professors, Black fraternities and sororities. Presented are biographies of men and women, some uneducated, with H.S. diplomas, Bachelor degrees, master?s degrees, and PhD's who became scholars, administrators, superintendents and leaders.

    Events in the American Black experience that include people, places, items, and timelines.

  • Film/TV

    Black actors, directors, producers, and writers within the industry.

  • Literature

    Blacks who influence the written word, novelist, poets, playwrights, etc.

  • Music

    Composers, musicians, and singers who have contributed to this Black genre.

  • Politics/Law/Military

    Those who shape Black history as elected officials, the military, lawyers, judges, and more.

  • Religion

    Ministers, bishops, priest, etc. men, women, institutions, and organizations of spirituality in America through the Black experience.

  • Science/ Medicine

    This category includes blacks in all sciences; medicine, technology, health, physics, psychology, agronomy, environment, research and more.

  • Sports/Outdoors

    Explorers, athletes, astronauts, organizations, events, and people working in the lifestyles that require mental and physical exertion.

  • Theatre/the Arts

    Those who serve as Black examples in dance, painting, sculptor, stage performance, and more.
