Early Paper

The work of this project adds a new dimension to the study of the book, by allowing digitally based research into the substrate of the item. It is based on the refinement of techniques to capture and archive quality images of the Surface Content and of the Substrate, especially paper. In addition, it enhances the security of any item of hand-made paper by creating and archiving the digital equivalent of the fingerprint of the paper.

The Early Paper Website has more information about Dr Christie-Miller's project, including PaperPrint technique, creation of watermark research resources in the form of fully searchable database of images of paper structure, and safe imaging of any book open only 45 degrees thanks to unique design of the Book Carrier and Book Cradle.
