Karin Feldman is a Benefits and Social Policy Insurance Specialist at the AFL-CIO in Washington.  She joined the AFL-CIO in September 2006 as the policy specialist for health care and retirement security. She works on a range of issues affecting pension and health care benefits whether provided through employer-sponsored plans or federal programs including Social Security and Medicare. Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, she has been responsible for coordinating the response of the AFL-CIO and its affiliates to the proposed rules implementing the Act issued by the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services and Treasury.

Before joining the AFL-CIO, Ms. Feldman worked at the United Steelworkers for more than 20 years in the Legal and Pension & Benefits Departments. At the Steelworkers, she participated in negotiations on a wide range of issues affecting pension and welfare benefit plans during contract negotiations and bankruptcy proceedings. Her work included developing benefit programs to minimize worker and retiree losses arising from pension terminations and the creation of funded voluntary employees’ beneficiary associations to provide health benefits to retirees and their beneficiaries. She has also served as a member of the Department of Labor’s ERISA Advisory Council.

Ms. Feldman is a member of the AFL-CIO Lawyers’ Coordinating Committee, the ABA Labor and Employment Law Section and the ERISA Roundtable. She also was an employee organization representative on the ERISA Advisory Council for a three year term and a member of the PBGC Negotiated Rulemaking Committee on Reportable Events.  

Ms. Feldman earned her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law.
