Jobs at ICN

InsideClimate News seeks to make several hires in the coming three to nine months in order to expand the scope and depth of our nearly decade-long operation.

ICN aims to double our current staff of 12 in the next two to three years to more fully cover climate and energy issues and to establish a permanent newsroom devoted exclusively to environmental journalism.

Our operation is largely virtual: We have a hub in New York, another in Boston, and staff from California to Washington D.C. Our newsroom has always been driven by self-starters. Many come from leading legacy news organizations, and others from top programs for science writing and investigative journalism, among other backgrounds. Good ideas propel the operation, wherever they originate.

We have a supportive culture of collaboration and high standards of professionalism. At our core, we are motivated by accountability journalism and storytelling that has the impact to improve the public interest.

If you'd like to explore a fit with ICN, please get in touch and let's start a conversation. A big plus of any of these jobs is good knowledge of the climate and energy arena—the history, the issues and the major players.

More specifically, we are interested in filling the following positions, but this does not preclude us from considering other proposals for where our coverage can go.

  • Features, Long Form and Investigations Editor
  • Political Reporter
  • Clean Energy Reporter
  • Environmental Justice and Activism Reporter
  • Reporters with expertise in agriculture, water and nuclear energy
  • Audience Development and Engagement Director

On the business side, we are also looking to hire a:

  • Business development professional with 7-12 years of experience and a track record of achievement, to help ICN diversify sources of revenue.

About ICN

Founded in 2007, InsideClimate News is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan news organization that covers clean energy, carbon energy, nuclear energy and environmental science—plus the territory in between where law, policy and public opinion are shaped.

We are staffed by professional journalists, many of whom bring decades of experience from leading media organizations, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, ProPublica, Los Angeles Times, Bloomberg News and Frontline.

We have earned national recognition for our work and many of the most prestigious awards in journalism, including the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting. For more, please see: http://insideclimatenews.org/about.
