Patchwork Redskins defense clamps down

After being gouged for 380 yards in Week 4 by the no-name Cleveland Browns, the Redskins defense has clamped down, holding rookie phenom Carson Wentz and the Eagles to a couple of field goals Sunday and making Joe Flacco the week before look so inept the Baltimore Ravens fired their offensive coordinator.

Kirk Cousins, Redskins notch 4th consecutive win

The Redskins' 27-20 win against the Philadelphia Eagles was not perfect. They allowed a special teams touchdown. Cousins threw an interception that was returned for another touchdown. But, there is an enormous four in their win column now.

Third quarter: Redskins up 24-14

The Washington Redskins added a 32-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins to take a 24-14 lead into the fourth quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Halftime: Redskins up 21-14,; Kerrigan injured

Two non-offensive touchdowns put the Philadelphia Eagles right back into the Week 6 matchup against the Washington Redskins, but a late Matt Jones touchdown put the Redskins up 21-14 at the half.

First quarter: Redskins up 7-0

- The Washington Times

Initially, both the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles struggled to move the ball offensively, but a 35-yard reception by DeSean Jackson, a 15-yard run by Matt Jones and a 16 yard touchdown reception by Jamison Crowder heated up the game, giving the Redskins a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.

Chris Thompson's skill set could be valuable against Eagles

Against the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick recorded six receptions for 33 yards and two scores, making it a highly productive day for the receptive back. Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson could have an equally productive day.

Redskins winning games with Crowder, special teams

Last Sunday was a good day for Jamison Crowder. With an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown, the first Redskins' punt return score since 2008, against the Baltimore Ravens, Crowder earned the NFC's Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Redskins defense faces test in rookie phenom Wentz

It's one thing to prepare for a top-flight quarterback in the NFL that you've seen before. It's another to prepare for one that has been on top of the world with just five career games under his belt in the Philadelphia Eagles' Carson Wentz.

Crowder punt return sparks Redskins' rally

Jamison Crowder returned a punt 85 yards for the Redskins' first score against Baltimore Sunday. That 85-yard return was the second-longest return the Ravens franchise has ever given up.

Jordan Reed is by far Cousins' favorite target

Between Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis, tight ends were targeted 15 times by Kirk Cousins. Reed, with 11 targets, was the most popular receiver of the day. That marks the second-straight week Reed, who finished with eight receptions and 53 yards, has led the team in targets.

Defense looms large in Redskins' win

With just 39 seconds remaining in the game, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco aired out a pass to wide receiver Breshad Perriman, who stretched skyward to haul in what at first looked like a game-tying miracle catch.

Third quarter: Redskins up 16-10

A 21-yard touchdown pass by Kirk Cousins to Pierre Garcon put the Washington Redskins up 13-10. On the very next drive, Dustin Hopkins made a 37-yard attempt to put Washington up 16-10 after the third quarter.

Robert Griffin III returns to little fanfare

Quarterback Robert Griffin III was back at FedEx Field for the first time since the Redskins released him in early March. This time, he was dressed in orange and brown warmup gear. Griffin was placed on the Cleveland Browns' injured reserve list after taking a sideline hit in the team's season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Matt Jones has Redskins' running game on the rise

Where was the running game? That was a repeated question through the first two weeks of the season for the Redskins. Running back Matt Jones -- and every other back on the roster -- were rarely used. That has changed as weeks have gone by.

Redskins win 31-20

Three Browns turnovers allowed the Redskins to secure a 31-20 win, bringing their record to 2-2 on the season.
