Student from Bloomfield named scholar

Montclair Kimberley Academy graduate Elliot Furbert of Bloomfield was one of 50 students selected as a Morehead-Cain scholar by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Furbert is one of 50 students selected on the basis of merit and accomplishment and is MKA’s first recipient.
He is an MKA Avery Barras Distinguished scholar and Faculty scholar for three years, was a National Achievement semi-finalist and one of 39 students selected to the N.J. Scholars program.
Furbert is chairman of MKA’s Junior Classics League, a member of MKA’s spring and winter track teams, plays tenor saxophone in the Jazz Ensemble and is vice president of MKA’s Habitat for Humanity chapter.
