About the construction site
Balmoral Road will be a major construction site, providing important logistical support for the tunnel construction.
Area: 190,000 square metres (m2).
Construction activities include:
- spoil removal
- general civil works
- station construction and fit-out
- station precinct works
- at-grade surface and viaduct systems fit-out
- testing and commissioning.
Main site features
Balmoral Road has been a major construction site, providing important logistical support for the tunnel construction. The Balmoral site was used for nearby earthworks and also included a concrete mixing plant and pre-cast facility.
A temporary concrete mixing plant was established to make the circular concrete rings that form the internal linings of the tunnels. The concrete rings were manufactured in segments at Balmoral Road and then taken to work sites at Bella Vista, Showground and Cherrybrook.
To meet tunnelling production requirements, around 36 rings were produced each day. To support this production, 100 tonnes of cement and 500 cubic metres (m³) of sand and aggregate were delivered to the site each day.

Access to the Balmoral Road construction zone will be from:
- Balmoral Road (left in, right out)
- Memorial Avenue (all movements).
