Work Package 1 - Documentation of MIRG related training material (September 2015–March 2016)

The purpose of the Work Package 1 (WP 1) was to collect together information on how different European countries have organised their fire and rescue services at sea and how the emergency fire and rescue services' personnel are trained to deal with ship fires.

The training of the emergency fire and rescue services' personnel was examined in order to identify the similarities and differences between different countries' training systems, and to discover if there are possibilities to intensify international cooperation in MIRG training in the future. Due to considerable variation in the content of the training between countries, the project has defined the competence requirements for MIRG or comparable operations in order to make training systems more comparable.

During the WP 1, all project partners were asked to provide the project with short descriptions of their respective countries' emergency fire and rescue services at sea in the event of a ship fire and a general description on how the emergency fire and rescue services personnel are trained to deal with ship fires in their countries. In addition, those partners whose countries offer MIRG-related training were asked to draw up a general description of the MIRG courses available in their country. Those partners also had a possibility to provide the project with descriptions of individual MIRG classes.

Collating training materials supported the creation of joint operational guidelines developed in WP 3.
