(CNSNews.com)—Since the beginning of 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in El Paso, Texas have apprehended more than 62 fugitives attempting to enter the United States. These arrests included people with outstanding warrants for homicide, child cruelty, and molestation of minors.

“The vast majority of those who use our ports are law abiding individuals, however CBP officers are diligent in their efforts to make sure those who are being sought by law enforcement are stopped and held accountable,” CBP El Paso Director of Field Operations Hector A. Mancha said in an announcement reporting the arrests.

Three specific incidents were cited in the statement released by CBP.

On Jan.7, a 42-year-old male Venezuelan citizen arrived at the Paso Del Norte border and was arrested for a warrant out of Wake County Sheriff’s Office in Raleigh, North Carolina. CBP did not release the name of the suspect, but said he was apprehended on charges of “sexual offence against a child.”

Three days later, a 56-year-old male from the United States was arrested upon arrival from Mexico at the Ysleta Port of Entry. He was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant for homicide issued from Adams County Sheriff’s Office in Brighton, Colorado.

On Jan. 21, another 56-year-old male U.S. citizen arrived from Mexico at the Paso Del Norte crossing. He was arrested for an outstanding warrant involving criminal sexual contact of a minor-child under 13, in Lovington, New Mexico. This warrant was issued by Leah County Sheriff’s Office.

“The remaining 59 individuals arrested were being sought on a variety of charges to include cruelty towards a child, molestation of a minor, abuse of a child, and assault,” the CBP reported.

All arrests were made by the CBP and each individual has been turned over to local authorities and is awaiting extradition to the original agencies.
