The Biden Administration has apparently reversed course on its border wall policy, and prominent Republicans are calling the sincerity of the policy reversal into question.

On Wednesday, the administration announced that it is waiving 26 federal laws in order to enable the construction of new barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border. The Hill reports that, according to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, “[T]here is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas.”

Some prominent Republicans are dubious of the sincerity of the policy decision. Former President Donald Trump told Fox News Digital in an interview that Biden is only reversing course because he “sees our country is being invaded.” “[W]hat is he going to do about the 15 million people from prisons, from mental institutions, insane asylums, and terrorists that have already come into our country?” Trump asked.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R, TX) minced no words, as well, in an interview with Fox News:

“I don’t believe a word of it. I think they’re pretending, I think they’re trying to pretend they give a damn.”

“Blue states are finally seeing the consequence of this. You’ve got blue mayors, you’ve got Eric Adams in New York, saying that illegal immigration is destroying New York City.” Even so, Cruz added, “I do not believe for a minute Joe Biden wants to fix it. I think this is all window dressing to pretend he cares. His objective is that he wants even more illegal immigrants.”

Indeed, it would seem that Biden’s change of heart, coupled with the increased outcry from Democrat politicians reaping the consequences of their actions, represents something more than mere coincidence.

“There will not be another foot of wall constructed under my administration,” Candidate Biden vowed while on the campaign trail in 2020.
