A) How we use the information you provide

When you volunteer on JohnKerry.com, we ask for your name, address, telephone number, email address and/or IM address, as well as who, if anyone, referred you to the site. We use the information you provide to send you news and information about John Kerry and his campaign, and to credit those who are organizing support for John Kerry. We will not sell this information to any third party, under any circumstances. We work closely with Democratic candidates, parties and allied organizations. If - and only if - you give your consent on our volunteer form, we may share some basic contact information with them, and they may contact you.

When you contribute money online:
Under Federal Election law, we are required to make periodic filings that provide the Federal Election Commission with information on each contributor: name, address, amount of contribution, date of contribution, employer and occupation. For more information on the FEC, visit their web site at http://www.fec.gov/. To make a contribution online, we also ask for your credit card number and its expiration date.

When you use our "Tell A Friend" Feature:
JohnKerry.com makes it easy for you to spread the word about John Kerry with its "Tell A Friend" Feature. When you use "Tell a Friend", we do not store email addresses or any information about the people you contact.

Though we make every effort to preserve user privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with an appropriate law enforcement investigation, current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our Web site.

Children's information:
We believe every precaution must be taken to protect children online. JohnKerry.com does not ask children 13 and under for any information, nor do we knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children 13 and under.

B) How we protect your information

JohnKerry.com has state of the art, extensive security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of the information under our control. Our server is located in a locked, secure environment, with a guard posted 24 hours a day. Access to your information is granted only to you and authorized Kerry Committee staff.

Your privacy is important to us. By participating in the Council of Better Business Bureau's BBBOnLine(R) Privacy Program we have made a commitment to meet the program's strict requirements regarding how we treat your information and have it verified by BBBOnLine(R). JohnKerry.com is also a licensee of the TRUSTe Privacy Program. TRUSTe is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to build users' trust and confidence in the Internet by promoting the use of fair information practices.

To do so, we use a tiny text file stored on your computer by our website -- so, if you choose, you do not have to re-enter your password each time you log in to JohnKerry.com. This tiny text file does not -- and never will -- store passwords, credit card numbers or any type of personally identifiable information whatsoever. If you want to stop having a personalized experience at JohnKerry.Com, it's simple and easy -- just uncheck the "Remember Me" box when you are logged in.

IP Addresses and Log File Data:
IP addresses are the location of your computer or network on the Internet. We log them for troubleshooting purposes, and to track which pages people visit in order to improve the quality of the site. We do not use this information to develop individual profiles.
