With the darker evenings settling in, this is the time of
year when enthusiasm for playing board games picks up again.
Modern board games strive to be simple to learn and stimulating
to play.
This year the Spiel Des Jahres, the most prestigious
board game award, was won by Ticket to Ride from prolific
games designer Alan R Moon. This and previous award winners
are profiled at the website. There are separate pages for
the 1995 winner Settlers of Catan and the groundbreaking tile
laying game Carcassonne.
The old favourite metal cricket dice game Owzthat
seems to be your new favourite as well. The executive edition
has metal pieces in a wooden box and for Christmas we have
some luxury sets which come with a nice pen for keeping score.
Every Tuesday from now until Christmas our shop in Greenwich
Market will be open until 8:00. Of course many of you are
not in London, but if you want to send somebody down to get
things for you we hope Tuesday evenings will make it more
convenient.
We’ve added the rules to Blind Hughie
to our website. This simple dominoes game is fun for younger
children and good for adults too.
If you want to receive our games, as well as
giving them, now’s the time to tell your friends about
www.compendia.co.uk, perhaps with a small hint about what
you would like to see under the tree.
And finally…We will run out of things
in December and the post will become more unreliable so it
is more relaxing to shop early and you will get more choice.
As ever, if you have any enquiries, get in touch.
Yours,
Megan Toogood
