There are many ways a game might end other than checkmate:
flag: If your opponent's time goes
to 0 he will automatically lose, unless you disable the flag feature. By default
newcomers to the ICC have their flag turned on. As you become more confident
with the options available on the ICC, you may decide you would like to set
this variable to off.
Advanced Topic: moretime
Before a flag falls, you can offer more time to your opponent. This will add more time to
your opponent's clock. If you are playing a good game, your opponent is running
out of time, andyou don't want the clock to determine the winner,
you may add more time to your opponent's clock with the moretime
command.
draw: Clicking on the Draw button
offers a draw to your opponent. Your opponent can accept your draw offer, or
he can decline it. He can also just keep playing, which is the same as declining
it.
resign: Clicking on Resign
to the right of your chess board will resign the game. (You will lose the game
if you resign). If you are losing a game, and don't want to keep playing it,
use the Resign button. Please do not disconnect or close BlitzIn,
because the game will be stored and must be finished later.
abort: This command proposes to your
opponent that the game be terminated with no ratings adjustment. Typing abort
on move one will terminate the game. After move one, typing abort
makes this offer to your opponent. Like draw, he can accept or decline.
adjourn: Typing adjourn
in the white text-strip means you want to adjourn the game and finish it later.
Your opponent is not obliged to accept an adjournment. Your opponent must type
adjourn to accept. If the request
is accepted the game will be stored. It is possible to
see your list of adjourned games.
