If you were to type the following in the white text-strip located at the bottom
of your main console:
tell 1 how do I see all the channels i am in?
you would send your question to channel 1. Channel 1 is the "help channel,"
which is monitored 24 hours a day by ICC helpers and administrators. The answer
to your question will appear in your console window. Channel 1 is not a "chat"
channel; it is for basic chess or ICC questions.
Tip: Accessing ICC help files
To read any of the ICC help files you simply type: "helptopic" in the white text-strip of your main console. For instance, typing
help fees will show the help file titled "fees" to you. Typing
help quick will show you a quick list of the most popular help
file titles.
Chatting in Any Channel
The help channel isn't the only channel on the ICC. There are hundreds of
channels for you to chat in, each one centered around a topic. First decide
which channel or channels interest you. To read about the topics and channel
numbers type: help channels
in your main console. Once you have found a channel that interests you, you
need to add it to your list. Typing +ch 34 in the white text-strip
of your main console will add channel 34 to your list. Typing -ch 34
would delete it from your list. =ch will allow you to see a list
of all the channels in your current list.
tell 34 Who won the French Open?
will send the question to channel 34 (the sports channel). Note: When you do
a channel tell, that channel is automatically added to your channel list.
Tip: The Comma Shortcut
To continue to talk to channel 34 (or any channel) you don't need
to continue typing:
tell 34 I missed the end of the game.
Just like the period (.) for personal tells, using the comma (,) sends a
channel-tell to the last channel you talked to.
