OLYMPIC CHESS EXPEDITION 2005By embarking on this expedition we will secure new interest through the media on the UK Chess as a Sport Campaign. We will be leaving as soon as we have our two vehicles and all our funding is in place. We are backing the London 2012 bid. We want all the chess players in the UK to support this bid. That is 4 million of us chess players. We want you to visit their site and register your name please remember to let them know you are a chess player. (Our Expedition leader meets Garry Kasparov in London, 8th January 2005 - picture right) We need help from sponsors. Can your company
help? Are you an individual who can help
us? Please email us. We are dedicated chess enthusiasts who have been promoting chess in the UK for many years. We now need help for the ChessXpedition 2005. We have already invested a lot of time and energy and finance to get to this stage, however we require further assistance.
We can not give all the details here at the moment please watch this space as developments happen. We hope that chess players will be able to follow our route around the world and that we can keep you updated every week of our progress.Once we are on off, you can keep up with how we are doing using our map below. We will keep you updated with weekly and monthly reports from the countries we are visiting. So you get the idea. We travel 64 countries we have already marked on our magic chessboard, play a game of chess and move on to the next country. We garner support for Chess in the Olympics, Chess as a sport in the UK, as well as the London 2012 bid to host the games. If chess can help London maybe London will help chess, with its overdue status of a sport. Chess Expedition 2005 - follow our progressMission StatementChess is one of the sports that the UK excels at globally. Moreover FIDE (the world chess governing body) is the second largest sporting organisation in the world. Despite chess being played by more than 4 million people regardless of social, cultural and physical backgrounds in this country, the sport is run on a shoestring budget based on a grant of barely £50,000.
