About Me

Hi, I'm Shane Hudson. I started Scid back in 1999 and from its inception it has been a free open-source project. I live in Christchurch (pop. 300,000), New Zealand (pop. 4 million) with my wife Becky, son Andrew (aged 5), baby #2 on the way (due in June), and two cats. My wife and I met on the Free Internet Chess Server FICS (yes, really!) back in 1995; she was in Kansas and I was in NZ. And no, she doesn't even play chess, but Andrew is starting to learn the game.

I don't play much serious chess these days; my last national (NZCF) rating was around 1950. As White I like the Tromp; as Black, the Scandinavian. Rook endgames have always been a favourite. I haven't played the Sicilian in a serious game for nearly ten years, and proud of it.
