The Chessworks Studio was founded in Seattle, Washington in 1993 by D. M. Weinstock, designer of the original ChessMate Pocket Chess Set.

   In April of 1996, The Chessworks Studio launched chessmate.com and very soon after that, ChessMate.com became the company name as well.

   Since that time, ChessMate.com has marketed, among other things, a line of high-quality pocket and travel chess sets based on the original ChessMate design, including the ChessMate Wallet and the ChessMate Ultima.

   Since the summer of 2001, D. M. Weinstock has turned his attention to hobby-game design and to the creation of associated mythologies.  His other company, WizerGames, develops games.  It recently published ChessHeads, a mythology based trading card game that can be played with any chess set.

   ChessMate.com, WizerGames, and D. M. Weinstock, are currently based in the city of Edmonds, Washington.
