ChessMate.com was originally founded in 1993 as "The Chessworks Studio" by D. M. Weinstock in Seattle, Washington.  David had designed the original ChessMate® pocket chess set in 1993, and in April of 1996 he launched The Chessworks Studio web site as ChessMate.com with the ChessMate® as his flagship product.  Soon after that, ChessMate.com became the company name as well.

      Since that time, ChessMate.com has marketed, among other things, a number of high-quality pocket and travel chess set designs under the ChessMate® brand.  Two of these are the ChessMate Wallet and the ChessMate Ultima, arguably the two most popular sets in the line at present.

      While continuing to operate ChessMate.com David has, for the past several years, turned his attention in part to designing board, card, and toy games outside of the chess arena.  Those endeavors include the creation of original mythologies upon which his games are based.  David owns several registered trademarks and copyrights for original brands and designs related to those projects, and his other company WizerGames publishes and markets the games themselves.

      Since 2004, WizerGames has published two unique offerings:  ChessHeads® -- a mythology based trading card game that is played with a chess set and which turns any game of chess into an explosive adventure, and  Sizzletoad!® -- a fast and fun board game for parents and families with children ages 4 and up.
