July 8, 2000 Race Results

Sunny had a decent race Saturday night, with the team still working to get the car back to the speed it was prior to being wrecked running 5th during the race June 17th. Sunny qualified the #14 Century 21 car 11th and finished the 50 Lap feature in 10th. Although not a Top 5 run, the team plans to go back to the race shop this week and do their homework, make changes to the car and test later on this coming week.

Sunny had her best qualifying run of the season Saturday night with a 17.70 on her qualifying second lap, setting her 8th on the starting grid for Caraway Speedway's Twin 35's. Since the first race was a short 35 lap sprint, Sunny knew she had to make a dash for the front as quickly as possible. The winner of the first 35-lap event would then draw a number to invert the field and set the grid for the second race.

Sunny got a good start and ran on the outside for the first few laps of the race until her spotter cleared her to drop down into line, falling in behind the #41 car of Junior Cox, putting her in 9th.

For the first 8 laps, the top 9 cars were nose-to-tail, single file all the way around the racetrack. On lap 8, driving into Turn 3, Sunny saw the beginnings of a incident ahead of her and prepared for action coming out 4. The ensuing wreck involving a few of the lead cars, blocked the track, but left open a hole just big enough for Sunny to accelerate through. She then re-started single-file in 4th position behind the #22 of Steve Loftin, last years track champion at Caraway Speedway. Sunny got a strong re-start and continued to run in 4th. Sunny lost one position a few laps later when she drove it in Turn 1 too deep and washed up the racetrack just enough to let the #01 get along side her coming out of Turn 2. The Top 5 cars continued to run this way lap after lap, with Sunny's #14 Pontiac showing strong. On lap 15, however, Nathan Butke, trying to get a nose under her car, wrecked Sunny into the wall. He turned into her at the flagstand, smashing her car up against the outside retaining wall, his car climbing up on top of her nose until they came to a stop in the center of 1 and 2 at the top of the track, Suny's car pinned up against the wall. It was a tough break for the SHE Racing team, because the car was so strong all day in practice, in qualifying and in the race. We plan to be back to race next weekend, June 24th.

May 27, 2000 Race Results Qualifying movie for 5/27/00 (143k)

A huge Saturday afternoon rainstorm at Caraway Speedway didn't rain out the race, but the green track caused a lot of problems with the setups. The SHE Racing team missed the qualifying set-up, and with a very loose car Sunny qualified 18 of 23 cars. But for the 150 lap race at Caraway's 4/10 mile track, the setup was great as Sunny worked her way through the pack and wrecks. At lap 142, Sunny was running 8th on the lead lap, when an engine problem (our first of the year) forced Sunny to park before the end of the race for the second race in a row.

We'll be back next week for a 50 lap feature.

FIRST 2000 LATE MODEL RACE MIXED SUCCESS

Sunny's first late model stock car race this year saw the all-new Pontiac fast out of the trailer. Unfortunately, a cut-down right front tire knocked Sunny from her seventh-place running position in the 50 lap race.

"The car felt great, and we're disappointed about the cut tire. Apparently I ran over debris from a crash early on in the race, and it took a while to go flat. But, since we're not running for points at Caraway, and the green flag pit stop would have put us down several laps, we decided to just park it," explained Sunny Hobbs.

The 2000 year Pontiac Grand Prix was built by Trooper Turner, crew chief for SHE Racing, with lots of assistance by Bill Davis Racing and other friends, including chassis set-up by John Babek and help by Jeff Roy and a great motor built by Al Toomes. Sunny said she had "lots of power". In its' first race, practice and lap times were very competitive. The team plans to test the new car at Caraway Speedway, and the next race will be at either Caraway or at Hickory with the ARA late model series.

January 23, 2000 Expect Announcement Soon

EXPECT ANNOUNCEMENT SOON ABOUT 2000 RACES, SAYS SUNNY HOBBS

The SHE Racing team responded to questions today concerning several rumors about its plans for 2000 racing for Sunny Hobbs. "We expect to announce soon our plans for this year. We have arranged for very competitive cars, additional crew members, and are now in discussions with sponsors," says Sunny Hobbs. The team confirmed that talks with sponsors included possible entries in NASCAR's Goody's DASH series, as well as Hooters Pro Cup. According to Hobbs, "We approached this year differently, by first making arrangements for top quality equipment and key team members. As a result we have been able to attract more interest from sponsors. " As for the rumored Trans-Am ride, Sunny says that opportunity has been in the discussion stages with a new team for several months, and that a test in a Corvette is planned for January.

In addition to plans for a touring series, SHE Racing has constructed an all new Pontiac late model stock car, which it plans to run in selected races this season at NASCAR short tracks in Virginia and North Carolina.
