Game 5, white
45.Kb1
Commentary for white move 45:
GK MOVE: 45 Kb1
MAURICE ASHLEY: I'm sorry, before you get to your question,
Kasparov has in fact entombed his king on the b1 square. It
sounds bad.
YASSER SEIRAWAN: But it's okay.
MAURICE ASHLEY: But I'm sure he has everything under control.
It is -- you've got to be cautious going on that square,
because now -- this pawn was just on c3 will be mate so we're
clear on that.
YASSER SEIRAWAN: I want to point out that Fritz believes in Deep
Blue's position. It's always favored Deep Blue throughout the
match but at the moment it thinks that Deep Blue is doing
well.
MAURICE ASHLEY: Your question.
AUDIENCE MEMBER: In the position you're looking at, if when the
pawn gets to c3, the knight could sacrifice on e5 to distract
the rook, if the pawn was going up to g7, he'd be one square
way of /KWAO*EPBG. And if he didn't, then you'd knock down his
c3 pawn, if the position we were looking at earlier.
YASSER SEIRAWAN: Exactly. The gentleman points out that white
may be looking for the opportunity in the future of sacrificing
his knight on f4 for that dangerous c-pawn with the idea that
his g-pawn can then march home.
MAURICE ASHLEY: So after -- after Rd2 --
YASSER SEIRAWAN: Which is the anticipated move.
