Candidates Vie For Hispanic Voters
There is little doubt that Hispanics will play a significant role in this year's presidential race between Barack Obama and John McCain. The Census Bureau reports an 18 percent jump in Hispanic voters in 2006, compared with the previous midterm election. They are also a big part of the population in key swing states, such as Florida, New Mexico and Colorado.

What if your family was planning a big end-of-summer bash (a Grand Old Party, you might call it) but preferred that you not be seen - or heard?

Presidential nominees Barack Obama and John McCain celebrate the 4th of July
Presidential nominees Barack Obama and John McCain celebrate the Fourth of July holiday on the campaign trail.
Barack Obama and his family are celebrating the Fourth of July in Butte, Montana. It's a state that usually gives its three electoral votes to a Republican. Only two Democrats have carried Montana since 1948. Republicans typically do not feel the need to campaign hard in the state, and Democrats usually have little hope of winning the state. But this year, Obama is spending a sizeable amount of time and money to try to win Montana.

McCain's Vietnam war record under attack
Left- and right-wing political commentators are tackling a subject moderate Democrats and Republicans won't touch: U.S. Sen. John McCain's military record.
The latest salvos against the presumptive Republican presidential candidate's war record came from a liberal blog and from retired U.S. Army Gen.
