Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan
GM Yasser Seirawan, a four-time U.S. Champion from Seattle, Wash.,
was born in Damascus, Syria, on March 24, 1960. This world-class player
has qualified twice for the World Championship Candidate series and has
scored well in numerous international events including first at Haeninge 1990
(ahead of Anatoly Karpov and Jaan Ehlvest) and at Wijk aan Zee 1980.
Yasser has represented the U.S. in six Chess Olympiads, including first
board for the Silver Medalist 1990 team. He twice won the U.S. Junior Championship
(1978-79), and tied for first place in the 1985 U.S. Open while winning it outright in 1990.
Yasser owned International Chess Enterprises which published Inside Chess magazine.
He has authored 13 books on chess and produced instructional videos. Yasser tied for
first place in the 1981, 1989 and 2000 U.S. Championships, and won the championship
outright in 1986. Yasser's other interests include sports, business, and movies.
