SimEarth: The Living Planet (Maxis, 1989 or so)

The follow-up to Maxis' megahit SimCity, SimEarth misses the mark in several ways, and ends up being quite disappointing. As the title suggests, this time the scope of the game encompasses an entire world rather than simply one city in a much larger world. While there are more options and more things to "play" with, the game doesn't have the same magic as SimCity. This may be due, in part, to the fact that playing with wind and lava currents and controlling the flow of evolution simply isn't as interesting as building a city from the ground up. While a more complex simulation than SimCity, it simply isn't worth playing.
