May-11-04		tpstar: For the Ruy Lopez Exchange, 5 ... Qd6 is often an active line for Black, although it loses time to the simple 6. Nbd2 f6 7. Nc4 hitting the Queen. Black was doing fine here, although maybe 13 ... Qc6 preserving the Two Bishops (14. Na5 Qb6 15. b4 c6). 17 ... Rh8?! was a time-wasting mistake; 17 ... g4 was much better and would distract White on the Kingside. 19. Qf2 would have been interesting (19 ... Be7 20. d4 cd 21. cd c5). 23 ... Qe7 gave better chances than 23 ... Qe5?/Qf6? 24. Rxd8+ Kxd8 25. Rd1+ & 26. Bd4, or in the game 23 ... Qg6?! 24. Bxf4 and now 24 ... Rxd4 25. Be5 (25 ... Qb6 26. Qf2), then 24 ... gxf4 25. Jan-06-07		sezori: It's not even the case of understanding GM games, it's if you can see what his plan is with a certain move...Nothing really to understand, see his plan and try to prevent or counter it with a counter threat.

Sep-02-08		pom nasayao: 24. ___ Rxd4 is neither good, because of 25. Qxc7 gxf4 26. Qe5+ takes the rook and leaves black double isolated pawns.

Sep-02-08		IT4L1CO: I think if 24 .. Rxd4 25 Be5 is the best...

Sep-13-08		pom nasayao: i think IT4L1CO may be right at one point, but after 25. Be5 Qb6 is devastating. White will be having a hard time compensating with the double isolated pawns on the b-file, with all material being equal.
