Krishnan Sasikiran, born January 7, 1981 in Chennai, is one of the rising generation of Indian players who are following in the footsteps of Viswanathan Anand. In January of 2007 he became the second player from India to reach a FIDE rating of 2700. In July 2008, he was ranked 38th in the world.

His most recent successes were outright firsts in the Najdorf Memorial (2008) with 6.5/10 and 18th Pamplona International (2008).

Oct-03-08   yalie: that makes him go past 2700 again.
Oct-04-08   yalie: He has beaten Ivan Ivanisevic (2664), Zdenko Kozul (2579), Ante Brkic (2530), Ivan Sokolov (2658) and Viktor Erdos (2576). He has also drawn with Vladimir Malakhov (2689) and Zoltan Almasi (2668). That is a whopping 19.2 points added to his current 2694. So in live ratings he is up to 2713. Hope someone will notify <Frogbert>.
Oct-05-08   frogbert: yalie, frogbert is occasionally up to the task even if nobody notifies him. i eventually found some energy yesterday to get updated on ongoing events, and hence i noticed sasikiran's knock-out performance as well.

as you might have noticed, i wasn't even updating from round 1 of the russian championship (despite everyone knowing that moro, jakovenko, svidler and alekseev were playing), so missing the first couple of rounds with sasikiran above 2700 (again) had little to do with anything but my own lack of energy.

with yesterday's update, i got a "snapshot" of sasi just 0,2 points below his maximum live rating, though, so not that bad after all... :o)

Nov-02-08   bharatiy: Hope he can be better than this, reach top 25 in next list.

LOL. <frogbert> on the subject of live ratings, you are *almost never* NOT upto the task. keep up the good work. at least some of the regular chess websites are giving you some credit for your work now, which is good to see.

here's hoping the two friends - Anand & Carlsen - the oldie and the kiddie - are in a dogfight for the #1 rating in the coming months. That can only be good for chess.

Nov-02-08   yalie: <bharatiy: Hope he can be better than this, reach top 25 in next list.>

He usually does very well in team events (Euro Club Cup is recent counter example :(). So good chance.

Nov-20-08   VishyFan: Sasi is doing well in the Olympiad and is in the top 3 for the top board prize after 7 rounds.....
Nov-21-08   sylvia: After the draw with Beliavsky Alexander in round 8 he is on 8th position. However his live rating stands at 2716, quiet encouraging for him.
Dec-05-08   bharatiy: Good that Sasi is playing Corus B, I think he is highest rated player in that group. Will be good if he wins that, he will get a invitation for Group A next time. All the best.
Dec-28-08   praddy06: Sasi is going to win this by a point
like he did in Najdorf Memorial (2008)
Dec-29-08   bharatiy: Sasi is already winning the Pamplona, hope he continues his performance in Corus B and will be amongst top 10.
Dec-29-08   yalie: I'm guessing he'll go for a quick draw with Delchev in the final round and Pamplona to guarantee a sole win and a 2800 result. Of course Delchev may not cooperate :)

3 consecutive wins after 3 consecutive draws :)

<hope he continues his performance in Corus B and will be amongst top 10>

GO SASI - CHAK DE INDIA :)

Dec-29-08   yalie: SAsikiran wins Pamplona by a point after a draw with Delchev in the last round. His closest pursuers Vallejo and Malakhov also drew.

That means a sparkling 2795 performance and 9 rating points. Should take his live rating score to 2721, but will probably be at 2712 in the January list since Pamplona is unlikely to be included for that.

Ragh: Excellent performance by Sasikiran in the 18th Pamplona International (2008) by winning the First place with 5/7 points, a full point over second-placed Vallejo!

angslo: SASI , please do well in corus also. If you do that, we all indian members - yalie, ragh, bharetiya, me ... -will gather here again and celebrate ur success together and that is a very good feeling :)

Thank you , SASI, for giving us this joy and all the best for Corus :)

Dec-29-08   bharatiy: I dont know if Sasi has seconds but probably should hire one or two if he is not working with anyone.

on chessninja DD, this is what Mig posted:

<Speaking of the next list, two former great hopes who looked like they were becoming never-wases, Sasikiran and Vallejo Pons, are going to add tons of points to be in the top 20. Late bloom or fluke? I'd be stunned to ever see either of them in the top ten, but it can be a good thing to be stunned from time to time. Keeps life from getting boring. >

<bhaatiy> Actually Sasikiran has had an Elo spurt since Lev Psakhis became his constant second [Psakhis is also the Indian team captain].

Lev Psakhis

Unlike Vallejo, Sasikiran has had far less supertournament opportunities. He almost won MTEL, his only super tournament so far. More than Vallejo, I think Sasikiran has a chance to make the top 10.

angslo: <Yesterday, his coach GM Lev Psakhis said that anything can happen in the last four rounds, and added "I had some important remarks on Krishnan's play in the first half of the tournament". Obviously, Lev's advices helped Sasikiran to stabilize his form as the second tournament half is heating up.>

all the material on their association i could find about thi m-tel only.

any article/source talking about their recent association anyone please?

Dec-29-08   bharatiy: thanks <yalie> for the info, I wish all important Indian player had there website and info about their schedule, results rating and seconds. Harikrishna started with one but hardly updates it, even Anand dont have a website, the one managed by his agents is bad again hardly updated. Or they can have blog with intermittent updates. Anyway cant wait for Corus to start. I had hoped that corus now being a Tata company many more invitations to Indians. But its OK.

Congratulations to GM Sasikiran.

Dec-30-08   anandrulez: I am happy for Sasi for breaking well into the 2700 barrier . Ofcourse there has been a significant inflation in ratings.still you can say that there is one more Indian in top 25 now .I am not sure if it is the seconds that helped Sasi make such a huge ride ...it could very well be the fact that he got a new manager who is also his wife . As they say there is a woman behind every successful man...
