Storyline

Betty Boop and Junior are excited when they look outside the apartment window and see a car heralding the carnival. "Today only," says the sign painted on the side. "And also all week!" Betty and Junior sing about the good time they're going to have at the carnival, but the moment they step outside, a thunderstorm begins and spoils their chance at some outdoor fun. Luckily, Prof. Grampy, who also lives in the building, hears Junior's temper tantrum and puts on his thinking cap. Moments later, the light bulb on the cap goes off, and Grampy has it! With his usual knack for on-the-spot inventions, he creates carnival games and carnival rides out of everyday objects, such as a seltzer bottle, a washtub, a trashcan, a table top and so on. The best is yet to come when Grampy turns the fire escapes around the building into a roller coaster. Written by J. Spurlin

It's hard not to love Grampy
28 September 2013 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

I have seen a ton of Betty Boop cartoons recently and I must have to say that the best thing about any of them are the times when Grampy appears--which, to me, wasn't often enough. Grampy was not just adorable but his inventions were often hilarious (or sadistic as in the case of "Be Human").

In "Grampy's Indoor Outing", Betty is watching Junior*. She's promised to take him to the carnival--but suddenly it begins raining and Junior is heart-broken. So, it's Grampy to the rescue and he uses his thinking cap to come up with a wonderful time INSIDE. Grampy makes up some makeshift carnival rides and games of skill for Junior to play--all made with various household items. It's all kind of cute and the kid is pretty easy to please--and the final trick is a doozy! Plus, as I watched, I sure wish I'd had a grandfather like this!! While this is not among the best Grampy episodes, it is quite good--cute and original as well as well worth your time.
